First off, the parking lot at Hackney's on Harms is always packed.
The Hackney's location on Harms Road has been around for years. My mom and dad used to go on dates here before they were married (and after). It is old school, which is good.
We went here last weekend with my dad who was in town for an event. You can't smoke in Hackney's anymore, but the pleasant aroma remains. I think it's pleasant anyhow, and I don't smoke. That's the first thing that hits you when you walk in the door.
Many people choose to eat on the nice patio under the trees with live music, but my dad likes to eat in the cozy dining room.
They are famous for many offerings but I think the onion loaf would have to top the list. It is fantastic. The thin rings must get some kind of pre-cooking treatment because they come out really tasty without anything on them.
We also got the Hackneyburger with fries and slaw. My late mother loved the slaw more than anything. I'm not a big fan of slaw, so I gave it to my girlfriend who happily accepted and devoured it.
We also like Hackney's on Lake Avenue, but this one -- the original -- is very special.
Hands-down the best outdoor dining I've ever experienced. The patio has plenty of table space so there is rarely a wait. It is all very beautifully done with trees right in the middle of the patio and foliage around the outskirts. Small animals will even make an appearance in the dining area. All the tables have umbrellas for sunny days. The onion rings are good and the Hackney Burger is mediocre at best but the aesthetics make up for the lack of a serious menu. Would recommend.
My opinion is this has the best tasting food of all the Hackney locations (current and closed). Smaller space with very good atmosphere and service. We all had burgers, including my daughter who is fickle. The 1/2 brick of onion rings were crispy and cooked through, no soft spots. The bottomless fries are also worth enjoying. Worth checking out the original Hackney's again.
Cool location, set back off the road and almost hidden. The outdoor space was quaint although the presence of two skunks by our table caused us to move indoors.
The indoor space was small and mostly taken up by the bar.
The staff was friendly overall, but very non-talkative and non-assertive. They didn’t jump in to help us and we had to assert ourselves a bit to get seated and ask for menus.
Burger was really good though!
Featured on Triple-D. A historic spot with a unique take on the classic cheeseburger. The patio was a nice place to eat.
Tonight we sat outdoors and its so beautiful and relaxed atmosphere. The food and service was great too.
We love their blue cheese burgers on a rye bun. Their onion fries are delicious! We really enjoy the outdoor patio at the harms location. Not that crowded at lunchtime. Evening you can wait awhile to sit outside.
My husband and I have been here twice and both times we loved it. Great service and food. My favorite is the ruben.
Wonderful Hackney Burgers and deep fried onion loaf.
Okay. Famous burger from 1939 tastes like it was designed in 1939. Burgers have evolved since then. If you're used to juicy seasoned modern burgers, don't bother with this one. I didn't care for the onion brick either. Come here if you want to enjoy a good beer outside.
Good food and nice atmosphere staff was accommodating.
The best outdoor seating in summer. Descent selection of beer and the food is eclectic American with specials everyday.
