A wonderful spot for hiking and camping. Access the Appalachian Trail from this scenic state park as well. Several trails are available for hiking with varying levels of difficulty. The Rhododendron Trail offers an experience with wild ponies. Cabin Creek trail leads to a beautiful waterfall.

Wonderful place to visit. Quiet, beautiful, majestic. So many great day hikes to take, some are part of the Appalachian Trail, and its really fun to meet through hikers. Nice visitor center with displays and supplies to purchase.

Great camping environment and an incredible camp host, very available and attentive. Fun with a group camping in adjoining sites. Incredible trails and views! And the horses are so cool, letting you get relatively close, and the babies are so fuzzy! For their safety, don't pet or feed them, but it is a terrible temptation. ♡

This is a truly beautiful state park. Excellent hiking trails and lots of large boulders to climb on. Be sure to hike the Twin Pinnacles trail for absolutely breathtaking views.

Great for a hike. However, this horse trail is not very 'mountain bike' friendly. Super crazy rocky, and dozens, and dozens of creek crossings.

I logged 2750' of climbing and just short of 20 miles.

The views were outstanding and I wouldn't hesitate to day-pack this place.

This is honestly my favorite place in America. I highly recommend going here. Most of the campsites are a good distance apart so you have privacy. There's a lot of trails to explore. OH, and, my boyfriend and I were able to see the actual milky way and the annual meteor shower while we were there, so, lots of shooting stars!! I Love it so much here

Great spot for the ultimate outdoor enthusiast or a weekend stroll. Very well maintained state park (roads are newly paved and facilities are very clean). I have parked at the overnight backpacker lot several times without incident. The hills and trails are crowded with people, livestock and livestock droppings. Ponies are a big draw for people who do not usually get on hiking trails. This causes trail congestion and lack of trail etiquette. Once your past the first half mile-mile section those issues usually disappear. Great views and experiences both times I've been!

Unforgettable place. The views are mind blowing and if you're lucky enough to stumble upon the wild ponies, you surely won't forget the experience. You can hike a steep, but short trail up Pinnacle to take in a sunset you'll never forget. Also, a fantastic place for family camping. There's a camp store right there at the campgrounds if you forget anything (or decide you want ice cream or a souvenir) We've camped here a few times and enjoyed every trip. Some of the sites are very close, but it seems most people are there to sleep and enjoy the park the rest of the day, it's pretty quiet. They have educational hikes and fun presentations for the kids and a small playground, too.

Amazing views, terrain from rolling hills, winding streams, sunny medows to clifftops. Wild ponies and nature in all her glory. The best park in VA hands down. Worth the trip and park fee every time, all year round.

But beware the highlands makes her own weather so plan ahead and come prepared. What my be cold winds 20 minutes down the road could be a gale force sleet storm in the highlands.

Beautiful State Park. Has a wonderful hidden waterfall, but the main attraction is the ponies (obviously). We drove up from Charlotte for an overnight stay. Hiked through the park and a few miles onto the AT. We had an awesome view of the surrounding mountains, and a nice sunset. We were lucky enough to have a few ponies with their new foal come through as we were pitching our tent.

I grew up in the beauty that is Grayson Highlands State Park. This park is immaculate and makes for a perfect trip! We love camping here and seem to find something new to explore every time.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! Such a breathtaking place! Came up for the Easter Egg hunt, which was a blast, and stayed for a guided pony hike which did not dissappoint. The staff was outstanding, educated and informed, and very patient with all the children. Cannot wait to come,back for another, longer, visit!
