There is a reason this school is ranked to poorly. If you go you will find out exactly how bad the school is. From the poor nursing program to so many other things that make this school a fail. They cost far to much for what they give back. To many professors hired just because they want to hire a diverse staff but fail to be good teachers. Sad what the school has become. GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

I wasn’t going to post a review about this school because I don’t want to give them another second of my time, but if I can prevent someone else from going through what I did I want to. I was only at this school for one year, and i can easily day it was the worst year of my life. Having my roommate switched at the last second before the year started with no warning from someone i really got along with to an absolute brat was absurd. Not to mention the school did nothing more than tell this person to stop after they continually left the door to my room unlocked and sometimes even open when no one was there putting all of my possessions at risk of being stolen.
The teachers seem like random people that were brought in off the street because the school doesn’t want to pay for knowledgeable qualified professors. The wifi is questionable at best, so don’t expect it to work. The campus food is inedible. The academic advisors will ignore everything you say and if you get angry about it they will tell you that you need to see a counselor for your “mental issues”. The entire school is money hungry and charge way too much for the garbage hole that the school is, and put the tuition into their own pockets instead of the school. Not to mention the school is out in the middle of nowhere where nobody can find you. There are dozens of rapes, there are robberies, burglaries, and shootings, and remember all of these things happened in the course of the 2016-2017 school year. The police do nothing to try and prevent these things, they put all their time into going around all the parking lots and writing as many parking tickets as humanly possible. The people are just nasty, there’s no other way to describe them, and the dorms are falling apart. This school doesn’t even deserve one star, and I wish i could get my tens of thousands of dollars and that entire year of my life back because i gained nothing from it, because only four of my credits transferred to my new school

2 stars. Why? Let me give you a few reasons:

1. I feel like the curriculum, at least for me being an illustration major, was actually pretty good. Granted, I feel like I was bogged down with a lot of unnecessary courses (welcome to Liberal Arts college) but I think that what I DID get out of it was pretty good.

2. FEES. Students are paying tuition for what, exactly? They charge for PAPER now. Parking has always been an issue and it's $400+ for a parking permit. The only thing that's "free" is bus fare, and you can see why when you realize the low quality (super early stopping times, inconvenient weekend routes, etc). Overall, you kind of pay all this money and end up wondering what you're actually paying it for.

I guess all in all, I wouldn't recommend liberal arts college for people who know what they want to do.

Grand Valley is a fantastic university. Gorgeous campus but a smaller more intimate feel than a big ten campus. Staff truly cares about kids. Class sizes are smaller allowing students more interaction with their professors. Clean, modern, beautiful facilities. They are pouring money into upgrades on the main campus as well as the downtown Grand Rapids health sciences campus. This university is a rising star for sure. Check it out!

Visited the GV campus for a tour. Comparing to some of the other schools, we found Grand Valley to be more updated, clean and organized. We will continue to investigate the school more.

I really like what they've done with the place. There's so much to do and learn here. The admissions and financial aid departments are top notch. There's some really great professors here (and some professors I'm shock are still on the GVSU payroll). My only issue would be the lack of diversity.

This place destroyed my life, I'm dead inside. I'm poor as hell and there's no help from the university other than their hand out, not to pull me up but asking for more money.

DO NOT GET A LIBERAL ARTS DEGREE OR A WGS DEGREE THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS. They will not get you any type of job over $11 an hour!!!

I owe GVSU a lot for putting me on the path I am now. Got my B.S. here in Anthropology. Now, I'm going to graduate school for archaeology next fall and I have GVSU to thank for that. A successful outcome isn't the case for everybody and colleges in general may not be right path for some people and that's just fine. I almost dropped out of GVSU myself before I got into Anthropology. It's about doing what you have to do in order to survive and be happy.

The tuition fees at GVSU won't bankrupt you and I promise you that the ingredients for success are present at GVSU. You just have to put in the effort and find those resources yourself, which is part of the learning process. If things don't work out then at least you didn't spend a ton of money on art school.

People are pretentious and self-serving. Little to no collaboration among students. Bus service is horrible. Professors (at least most) are horrible. I cannot wait to graduate next year.

This school left an impact on me. They only care about getting your money. They change their tuition and requirements for majors constantly. My RA made fun of me for being white.

My 4 years here have been just traveling from one dumpster fire to the next. From having a business college advisor promise to send an override request form for a class, and when I go in to see her about it she sends out her secretary to tell me that minors don't matter and they aren't required to graduate, to having the vultures at the parking office keep raising their permit prices and then raise ticket prices. Or maybe it was when the financial aid office tried cancelling my loans twice, or perhaps when the Student Senate tried killing off a club I co-founded by denying a budget (even though we checked all the right boxes, we survived). Perhaps it was the professor I had for macroeconomics who the University called up from retirement to fill a vacancy who did nothing but complain about his ex-wife and try to force his political views on us.

My experience with the University has been mostly horrible. But, there are a few redeeming qualities and people. My professors in the International Relations, Political Science, and History departments have been outstanding. They're all wonderful and knowledgeable people. My career advisor and counselor has been amazing and she genuinely cares about my success. I can't speak for many other departments, my gen ed professors were all fine, but Seidman doesn't care and the University doesn't care. Also, the University is beautiful and the study abroad experience is simple. So if you come to GV, find a way to study abroad all four years.

I work at a place filled with university students from GV, Calvin, Aquinas, and Cornerstone.Time and time again us GV students get to sharing horror stories about our experiences and they all are shocked by the stuff we have to deal with. Sure, they pay lots more, but perhaps that's worth it. I have heard stories about credits not being transferred (even though she triple checked with her program before paying for it), not finding parking even though you spent the $400 for a pass, getting charged $275 in late fees for books that they renewed online, getting robbed (that's not on the University, but come on).

Overall, I've enjoyed my time here at GV, but with no thanks to the University. I've made lots of friends, enjoyed almost all my professors, and made great memories. If you go here, just prepare for at least one huge "f*** you" from the University.
