LEAGUE KICK-OFF MEETING - Thursday, May 3, 2012
Please do your best to come to the first meeting. There are many updates that you will want to learn about before our first night of play.

The league kick-off meeting will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Rick Altham has graciously offered to hold a free golf clinic from 5-6:00 pm for anyone interested in getting the kinks out!

Can’t make the clinic? Then hang out in the snack bar for a casual happy hour (5-6). The meeting will take place from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the conference room next to the snack bar.

We’d love to have new members - spread the word!

Get-to-Know-You Scramble, May 10th - Bonus Stableford Points!
The first night of league play will be a “Get To Know You Scramble” starting at 4:45 pm on Thursday, May 10th. Rick will set up foursomes pairing new and existing members. It was a blast last year, and a great way to start off the season.

To encourage attendance and to mingle with the new members, you will receive 25 bonus points toward your end of year score. You must play in this scramble to claim your points. If you cannot play with the group this night, you may play as a make-up and earn regular Stableford points for your round. Make-up for this game runs from 5/3 to 5/17 (3:00 pm).

Membership and Registration
Membership is open to all women 18 years of age and older who can complete 9 holes of golf in 2½ hours or less. Gorham Country Club also offers a Beginners League on Wednesday nights. Please see the pro shop for more details.

The 2012 membership fee will be $75. Please see the one of the officers if you pay your GHIN fees at another club. Scores will be posted only after the membership fee is paid.

League fees must be paid by Thursday, May 10th. Checks can be made out to GCCWTL and given to Angela Stahl, dropped off at the pro shop, or mailed to the address on the registration form.

Please submit a completed registration form with your payment. This will update your contact information for the league files. Copies will be available at the kick-off meeting and the pro shop.

Green Fees
League green fees will remain at $16. A big thanks to Rick for holding the price.

SCORING
Our league uses modified Stableford scoring for the award of prizes at the year end banquet. This Stableford format is good for a wide range of golf abilities. The goal is to improve your own golf game and get as many points for yourself for competition in your division. This will also allow each person to play with anyone in the golf league.

STABLEFORD SCORING FORMAT

Modified Stableford is a point system applied to Stoke Play and is based upon the net score obtained on each hole.

9 hole stroke play format, all net and played with 50% of current 18 hole handicap.

Points are awarded as follows:
0 Points for Double Bogey (2 over par)
1 Point for Bogey (1 over par)
2 Points for Par
3 Points for Birdie (1 under par)
4 Points for Eagle (2 under par)
5 Points for Double Eagle (3 under par)
6 Points for Triple Eagle (4 under par)

Examples...

If the course is a par 72 for 18 holes and you shot 110 and your handicap is 38 for 18 holes, you shot a net 72. Par for the course!

Gross Score 110 (strokes to complete 18 holes) 110
Handicap -38 (18 hole handicap)
Net Score 72 (even par)

If the course is a par 36 for 9 holes, and your handicap is 24 for 9 holes and you shot a 67, then you shot a net 43. (7 over par)

Gross Score 67 (strokes to complete 9 holes) 67
Handicap -24 (9 hole handicap)
Net Score =43 (7 over par)

Hole Difficulty – Each hole is rated 1 to 18 with 1 being the hardest hole on the course.

Applying Your Handicap to Each Hole – Depending on how many strokes you get, these strokes are applied to each hole according to difficulty.

The following is the difficulty rating (with a rating of 1 being the most difficult) from the red tees assigned to each hole by Gorham. These can also be found on every scorecard.

1 - 16
2 - 3
3 - 4
4 - 14
5 - 11
6 - 18
7 - 1
8 - 13
9 - 7

10 - 6
11 - 2
12 - 15
13 - 17
14 - 12
15 - 9
16 - 5
17 - 8
18 - 10

In this case, the 7th hole is the hardest hole, then the 11th and so on.

Example
RE: 9 Hole Golf Handicap for the front nine.
