Glade Creek is absolutely beautiful. The creek flows through a deep canyon with tons of cool song birds feeding on some wild red berry clusters. Plenty of fish in the creek as well. The trailhead has plenty of parking and information. Opposite the parking lot from the glade creek trailhead there's an old bridge leading to an unmarked trail. This trail leads you to the lost town of Hamlet, an old abandoned logging railroad town that's been overtaken by nature. There's a sign describing all of this at the parking lot. Highlight of that unmarked trail was the concrete pillars still in the river from a dismantled railroad bridge. There is a boat ramp and legit campgrounds right by the trailhead but the Grandview Sandbar campground you pass on the way here is way more chill, less packed, and has a boat ramp too

Awesome trail. Not very crowded. Glade Creek is very scenic with a few great swimming holes and some nice waterfalls.

If you want to get away from people, this is a great place to go.

Now I know what John Denver was singing about. West Virginia really is a wild, wonderful place, and the New River epitomizes what it's all about. Buggy, rocky, muddy, and wet, all in the best way possible. Bring your older (8+) children, and stay for a day. Overnight camping is not for the faint of heart or inexperienced around here.

Great trail! Not too terribly technical and not a ton of elevation gain/loss, so it's nice for an easy day hike. Plus there's a pretty sweet swimming hole about a mile from the trailhead.
