A Geriatric Care Manager (GCM) is a health and human services specialist who helps families who are concerned about and caring for older relatives. A GCM is an experienced guide and resource for families of elders with chronic needs, including helping those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s or general frailty and dependence.

As a credentialed gerontologist and certified geriatric care manager who has worked with elders for 20 years I find a common issue is that families are unprepared and unaware as to what to do when an elder becomes ill, has memory problems or is struggling to manage activities of daily living; such as paying bills, keeping up the home or shopping and cooking. Many folks feel like they are on their own. Fortunately, this is not true.
