Description
The Children's Room of the Library is specifically designed to to serve children from 18 months of age through grade 5. Here they will find a large selection of books, audiobooks on CD, and magazines. There are also computers with varied electronic resources to assist students and parents with school assignments.

We're already gearing up for this year's Summer Reading Club Program, A Universe of Stories! Here's a sneak peak of the outer space themed artwork for the summer the mothers and daughters of the Garden City chapter of the National Charity League, Inc. made this afternoon for the Garden City Public Library Children's Room! Check out the Garden City Public Library Children's Room and Garden City Public Library - Tweens & Teens Department's Kindness display for the month of April! The display includes anti-bullying posters created by tweens during yesterday's Wonder-inspired Anti-Bullying Day held at the Garden City Public Library and kindness rocks and kindness bracelets created by the mothers and daughters of the Garden City Chapter of the National Charity League, Inc. It also includes kindness-themed buttons and a Post a Positive Message board made by our VolunTeens! Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the display possible! Stop by the Garden City Public Library in April to see the display, post on our Positive Message Board, and help the Library spread kindness in the community by picking out a kindness rock, bracelet, and button to take home with you!

Check out some of the pictures from today's Wonder-inspired Anti-Bullying Day! Garden City Public Library - Tweens & Teens Department and the Garden City Public Library Children's Room would like to thank the mothers and daughters of the Garden City chapter of the National Charity League, Inc. who volunteered today and also made decorations for the event, painted kindness rocks as giveaways and for our Kindness Rock Scavenger Hunt, and created kindness bracelets today for the Library to give out during the month of April! Thanks also to the Friends of the Garden City Public Library for donating the Wonder-themed prize for the Kindness Rock Scavenger Hunt! Lastly, thanks also to the VolunTeens who made and helped hand out kindness-themed buttons and ran our Post a Positive Message board today! Check out the article in The Garden City News about this year's Chick Incubation Project! Thanks to everyone who visited the Garden City Public Libraryduring the Garden City Public Library - Tweens & Teens Department's Chick Incubation Project this year! The chicks have been returned back to Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County at Suffolk County Farm & Education Center in Yaphank, NY. We will run the program again next spring and we hope everyone will visit again to learn about the new chicks that hatch next year! 🐣🐣🐣

The all-day event was a joint program between the Garden City Public Library Children's Room and Garden City Public Library - Tweens & Teens Department and featured special guests from the Lucasfilm-recognized, international, not-for-profit, charity costuming organizations Saber Guild - Endor Temple, 501st Legion: Empire City Garrison, Echo Base - Rebel Legion, and the R2 Builders Club. Thanks to the members of these groups for volunteering their time to visit the Garden City Public Library for Star Wars Day and thanks to all the patrons who attended to help make it such a fun and successful event! Thanks also to the Friends of the Garden City Public Library for donating the prizes for our Star Wars-themed Scavenger Hunt and to the teen volunteers who helped during the day.

The Garden City Public Library Children's Room and Garden City Public Library - Tweens & Teens Department had a great time last night with the Garden City Friends of STEAM at the Robo Expo! The Library's sixth grade FIRST LEGO League Robotics team, the two Garden City Middle School teams, and the Garden City parent-run team the Taco Brothers presented about their experiences. Plus, the Garden City High School Vex Robotics team demonstrated their robot to attendees. It was a very fun and informative night!

Star Wars Day was held on Saturday, March 23 at the Library. The Garden City Public Library - Tweens & Teens Department and the Garden City Public Library Children's Room are partnering with the Garden City Friends of STEAM this Monday, April 1 at 7PM for our second annual Robo Expo! The Library's sixth grade team, the Astro Red Panda Warriors, as well as other FIRST LEGO League teams from the Garden City Middle School and Garden City community will be there to present about their robot, their research project, and their experiences this year with FIRST LEGO League. The Garden City High School robotics team will be there as well. Stop by and learn more about robotics in the community and how your child can get involved. Students and parents of all ages are welcome. No registration required, but availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the flyer below for more details!
