Always a fun place with family. Has the old classic appeal and the unique quirks that come with old buildings like small bathrooms, but hey, it's charming and there is a parking garage next door. We see the Community Nutcracker each year here and have a blast.
The architecture of this place is beyond incredible with a look that reminds you of the Spanish Renaissance around the 1920s or 1930s. The location is easy to find if you're visiting out of town and parking was easily accessible. I enjoyed the middle balcony view where I could see the show with no problems. I purchased my tickets online and the check in process was very quick and refreshments are served. I attended a show a couple of weeks ago and noticed however, that the theater was incredibly warm; I'm so glad I dressed light, so keep that in mind or you will be overheated :)
Beautiful venue. Need some hand railings on the upper levels. Kinda steep for and old codger like myself. Sound was amazing. Definitely looking for another show there!
What a beautiful historic location, inside and out. Located in downtown Jacksonville. Parking is decent. You can parralle park along the road or in one of the many parking lots or garages. There generally is a fee to park downtown. Street parking is metered during the week days and garage parking is normally hourly or daily.
The entrance is unique and provides a 30s theater appeal. Once you enter there are stairs that bring you to the many different levels of seating. The seats are fold down cushion which are quite comfortable.
The attention to detail is what really is remarkable about this old theater. While it dose show signs of its age it is still a beautiful sight to see. And no matter where you sit you are guaranteed to have an excellent view of the entire stage and can clearly hear the entire play without struggling.
Durring all events I have attended they have turn the lights completely out leaving ambient lighting to guide you out in an emergency. However, they do have ushers located through the seating areas with handheld lights to assist and guide you out and back to your seat. I definitely would suggest if you haven't taken the time to enjoy this beautiful landmark that you plan a trip or to. Aside from the location being a gem the entertainment preformed here is excellent and well with the fees charged.
As we get older, we truly value life's most precious gifts. For me, one of my treasures is my mom. My mom has been mentioning annually the desire to go to a specific show at the theatre. She used to frequent the theatre throughout her adolescent years. Growing anxiety as I searched the tickets for the show for her birthday led to me calling the venue. I spoke with Ms. Gail. Lovely voice and excellent customer service - a rarity these days when you call a business. She provided her expertise and was patient with me as we discussed the significance of the birthday gift for my mom and best seating. I am excited and looking forward to a great event. Ms. Gail set the tone and high expectations for a wonderful experience and I can't wait!
The shows here are decent.
The online ordering is quite archaic. The Florida Theatre charges 10.00usd per ticket as a fee when purchased online. Will not go again.
This is a beautiful place! Saw Brian Regan last week and he was absolutely hilarious. The lobby of this theatre is stunning very romantic lighting.
Wonderful place that needs some TLC. She's showing her age and I don't want to see her fall back to what she looked like when I was a kid and watching Bruce Lee movies in there.
Very fun place yo take in a show. Rich in history and character. Highly recommended
Had a blast here watching Jo Koy. One note for larger / taller patrons. you will not fit. The seats were made in the old days when America was not nearly as, let's say curvy as we are today. I'm 6'3" and a large man. I was able to squeeze into the chair but my knees were hitting the people in front of me. I ended up sitting in the aisle when the lights went out so I didn't get booted out 😅. I was in the upper level so the lower level may have newer, better seating.
such a neat old venue. love it. saw the little river band and they were awesome.
Best place in Jax to catch a concert or a show. Casual atmosphere with a local vibe. They have a very limited alcohol selection and sell snacks and candy, but no food. They do not have their own parking lot, so you are usually at the mercy of near by lots that usually charge around $10 for event parking.
Went to see the band Home Free and was very impressed with not only the band but also the service at the venue. There were ushers who helped us find our seats and to locate the restroom. The architecture of the building is absolutely amazing. I will definitely be going again.
First time here. It's a beautiful building inside and out and clean bathrooms. Serves alcohol and bottled water ($2) and snack size chips($2). Seats were comfortable and someone was there to help you find your seat. Parked on the street and felt safe.
I last went to see Dave Chappelle. The Florida theatre is always a good time. Pleasant atmosphere and the service is always good.
The only thing I have an issue with is the seating. At times, depending on your size, it can be a bit uncomfortable for extended periods of time.
For example, I am 6'1" and my arms are a bit too long for casual, comfortable sitting. The chairs are old and small in comparison to my comfy needs.
Otherwise, go see shows here! It's a great experience every time!
