I like the traditional side of the place. I would easily imagine this as the pizza spot for the locals in Italy. Choice of pizza or spaghetti. That's it. No fancy adaptations. The only minis for me was the ridiculous amount of cheese on the pizza. I love cheese but it was a bit too much.

The food was great. The place being crowded and busy implies that it is a good place to try out Italian Pizza. You can even get Italian groceries in this store. The service was good too. The prices was affordable. They have unique decorations hanging out from the ceiling. It's kinda nice too.

I absolutely loved this place. The prices are so inexpensive, and the portions are huge. The tomato sauce was so delicious slightly sweetjust right and absolutely Fresh tasting with great ingredients. Everything tasted like it was made in a Mom and Pop's kitchen straight out of an Italian homes kitchen. Customer service was great! the interior design reminded me of a quaint restaurant in Italy. So comforting, so welcoming. just absolutely everything I wanted and more.

Phenomenal service! The pizza was the best I've ever had. Simple right to the point! And the environment was even crazier then the taste of the food! You walk in through a corner store bodega kinda feel. Place is FIRRREEEE

Whenever we are in San Diego we eat here. The cheese on the pizza is delicious. Try their lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs you won't regret it.
The wait is typically long to get in but it's worth it. You can not make reservations, so be prepared to stand in line for at least 15-30 min.
Their service is hit or miss. Tonight, Nicole was our server and she was excellent. She is quick and attentive as a server should. Kudos to her, she's by far the best server we've come across here and we've visited over a dozen times.

My family started eating here years ago. Warm, authentic Italian atmosphere. Food is good, reasonably priced for the large portions they serve! And it's not just pizza, they serve a variety of Italian cuisine. I personally love their ravioli :)

    Excellent and Amazing food!
    The service is good.
Filippi's is Legendary amongst anybody that's lived in San Diego for a long time!
Strictly word of mouth is key!
Everyone I know takes friends there for special occasions or just for fun!
I've been going there since 1972!!
    Never disappoints!!

This is one of the best Italian and and pizza places I've been to. Every time I'm in San Diego I gave to have at least one meal here.

This place does not have reservations and it is not a fancy place, but the food is excellent. Their portions are large. Sometimes the child's portion is more than enough for an adult.

The pizza is the best. Some times there is a little too much cheese, but that is not a issue. Who doesn't like a little extra cheese on their pizzas?

On weekends there can be a line, bit it moves fast. At most I've waited 20 minutes.

If you are in San Diego, you have to go to The Little Italy section and eat at Filippis.

Been going to this place when I am in San Diego for the last 20 years. Food has been consistently great @ a reasonable price. Love the homemade sausage & meatballs. Pasta in meat sauce great. Pasta with clams in white wine sauce outstanding. Never saw so much clams on a pasta dish. Antipasto salad also great. Staff friendly and accommodating. Buds ordered Hawaiian pizza which i am sure would horrify purists, but my buds loved the pizza. But get there b4 6pm weekdays or u will hit a 30 to 40 min wait. Worse on weekends I think.

Waited a very long time in a line through a grocery store. It was fine; there is no where else to stand. But, was obviously a major hassle for the people trying to buy stuff from the store.

The food was okay. I think the Kearny Mesa location is better.

Food was very good, of the classic American-Italian style. The pizzas were great. Staff are super-friendly and attentive. Pasta sauces are on the tame side, not unusual for a place which likely has carried the same recipes and family-oriented menu for decades; if you're looking for sweet potato gnocchi with a rich basil-tomato cream sauce, this is not your restaurant.

I grew up with this place. In my 45 years Filippi's has NEVER let me down! I always visit when I come back to my native San Diego. They always have consistently incredible Italian food from the pizzas to the pastas!! What has ALWAYS made them better? The service. You feel like family here, regardless of which location you choose to go to.
It doesn't get any better. Fantastic food, great prices and an atmosphere that is second to none!

Almost loathe to further popularize this gem of an Italian eatery, as the wait times during peak hours of Friday and Saturdays are already substantial. Filippi's is a well known local institution and my personal favorite restaurant in Little Italy. Every menu item screams freshness and though I'm not a frequent traveler to Italy, exudes a traditional quality I relate to the recipes of its Italian kitchen origins. Arrive early, by 6pm, on weekend nights if you're looking to avoid a wait and do not have a reservation. Also of note: the front of the restaurant houses an Italian food market for picking up most anything you'd need to craft your own authentic cuisines, and further contributes to the Italian cultural atmosphere.
