The tunnel is hands down much better than the bridge! Generally, there is no more than a 10 minute delay when going through customs on either side of the border. Have all your documents ready when speaking with agents and things usually are smooth. I've been randomly selected for additional screening once before and it was relatively quick.

Cool way to cross to Canada from Detroit. The bridge is located a few minutes west. Cost is $5 to use the tunnel or bridge.

Now I know why the tunnels backs up. I was one of those lucky lottery winners that caused the patrol officer to shut the gait dowm, escort me and my husband to the biulding, and made sure that we had a clear sense of why we were being detained. I was treated more than fair. Everyone who was working had a professional attitude, even a smile or two occasionally. I was detained for about an hour. When I was leaving, I was wished a happy birthday, and I felt safe and grateful for all of the fine patrol officers that truly make our border safe. THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE

Quick and simple experience crossing over to Canada for the first time. Straightforward. Make sure you have a passport and be ready to tell the border officer where you are going (and why), and what you are taking with you. Don't joke around with them either.

If you don't have a Canadian or US passport, make sure you have plenty of time to answer all the questions. Also have with you all details about the place you are going.

Awesome people at both sides of the tunnel! Officer Chen(on the Windsor side) was even kind enough to give me some pointers on the Asian food restaurants around the area, suggested I try Phó Nguyen Hoang for Phó. THANK YOU!

I, for one, love the tunnel. I love driving and knowing that tons of water are rushing above my head. If you're ever trying to cross the border, I recommend the tunnel instead of the bridge. You will save money with the tunnel(currently $9.50USD round-trip to the $10USD for the bridge), and you'll save hours if this is your daily commute.

This tunnel is the bee's knees. Just be warned you have to visit customs officials on both sides of the tunnel. These customs officials are some of the nicest people both in terms of customer service and employees of the government bureaucracy. However, try to avoid engaging in humor with them, they seem to not like jokes. One time they asked if I have any outstanding warrants. Instead of saying, "No" like I am supposed to; I said as a joke, "Not until the mail man starts to smell it." Looking back I shouldn't have done that because it wasn't even that funny of a joke. The moment I said it, I realized that there was no real comedic effect. Good thing the customs agents pulled me aside for a few hours and I was able to rethink the joke. Through this alone time I was able to tweak the joke to where I should have said, "Riding you mom like the bus and not paying the forty-five cent fee is not a crime, so no."
