Comfortable waiting areas, plenty of seating. Nice variety of places to get something to eat/drink.
Like most smaller airports you have to stand in line at the rental car booth to get your car.
The luggage claim was slow but I think that was the airlines fault more than the ground crew.response / report this review -

This is an awesome airport! I love flying in over the city you get a really great view of Madison. The controlers we're great! I am a newly licensed pilot and typically do not fly in or out of a towered airport but things went extremely smooth. My calls were not perfect however the controlers were extremely helpful and stepped me all the way through the process. Thank you Madison and all of the controllers I cannot wait to visit again!

Very relaxing common area even when crowded.
TSA is, well, TSA. They do a great job of scanning everyone in a nice calm and thorough fashion. I felt extremely safe.
Many shops along the way to your terminal. Be sure to get Bucky Badger attire before you depart!response / report this review -

Fantastic regional airport, very comfortable waiting areas, extremely nice art displays, a surprising varried assortment of places to grab something to eat. You don't have to check out several places for your rental car, just get the key and go.

I had someone take my bag off the luggage carousel. The problem is the security here. Dane County Sheriffs couldn't track my bag to a vehicle according to their own admission. They followed the guy to parking ramp but that is where camera coverage ended. There are no cameras spread out in ramps. This meant they couldn't follow him visually to his vehicle. That of course means no vehicle description or license plate. Talk about a major security flaw

Nice airport, before 5am there was no one in the TSA PreCheck line when I went through. Looking forward to flying out of here again. Even better than MKE and far better than Chicago. MKE might have had a direct flight but the drive time wouldn't have been worth it this early in the morning.

Consistently the worst airport I have to travel through for business. No one checks in rental car returns, so you have to go to the counter to stand in line in order to get your receipt. Quiet airport with no security lines, which means in order for TSA to get their jollies they crank the scanner sensitivity all the way up. The scan looked like I had a shotgun in my pants and the TSA agent almost searched me to completion.

I like tiny airports. Everything is easily convenient. Not a ton of walking to get around and you can get in and out fast!
But my Budget counter was closed and had to go to Avis but still not bad but not the Fastbreak experience I was looking forward too.response / report this review -

Dane County Regional Airport was lovely. The security check point was stream lined and the officers were very pleasant. Even though the airport was on the smaller scale it had choices of food and the entire facility was very clean!

As a smaller, regional airport, DCRA is truly a well-done, well-laid out and well-appointed airport. There is plenty of direction signage, so it's easy to know where to go; departure, pick-up/drop-off areas, comfort facilities and other areas are clearly marked and directions well given. The only issue that I had was a lack of knowledgeable people available to ask a question of: a janitorial staff person gave better replies to questions than airport security did! Other than that, a wonderful airport!

I've lived in the area most of my life, and have used the airport quite frequently because of that. Great environment, especially for a smaller airport. When leaving earlier in the morning this week, five people in a row were chosen for patdowns, and three had their bags checked, including the person I was travelling with. This is through no fault of the TSA officers, but it was a lot stiffer than security has been in the past. Regardless, I have otherwise had nothing but great experiences

As part of the Epic crew that uses this place ten to twenty times a year, I think it is very clean and upscale feeling comparing to other similar size airports around the country. It could use more direct flights to other parts of the states for sure, but that's largely what airlines decisions.
