Students in the Cosmetology program at SBCTC are learning how to become business-savvy entrepreneurs thanks to a recent school project. Over the past week, students have spoken with a business coach from the WV Small Business Development Center and created plans to launch their own beauty salons. Today, students received a special visit from Judy Whetzel, owner of Touch of Class salon in Elkins, WV. Ms. Whetzel along with Shelly Crites, Assistant Director of SBCTC, listened to the students’ business plans and provided outstanding feedback for their ideas. Thanks to a knowledgeable team of business experts ranging from Instructors Amanda Rader and Jennifer Miller to our special guests, these students are well on their way to becoming WV’s next generation of business leaders.
The cosmetology students of Cutting Edge and South Branch Career and Technical Center have found a great way to showcase their creativity and make a difference in the journey of a cancer patient! The “Project Turning Heads” involves students taking fully shaved mannequin heads and designing them to a chosen theme. The students have used their artistic abilities to display some of the most creative ideas. Each mannequin is on display in the SBCTC vestibule with a coinciding box for donations. The most money raised per mannequin will decide our first, second and third place winners. After all moneys have been counted they will be donated to the Catamounts Against Cancer Relay for Life Team of Potomac State College. The display is open to the public thru December, 20th M-F 8am till 2:45pm.

We here at the salon clinic are so happy to offer such amazing deals to the community that supports us! These services are the practice our students need and are required to accomplish. With that being said we sincerely ask that if you are unable to keep an appointment you’ve made at our clinic please call and cancel that appointment. That way the student who was going to handle the service can take a walk-in or prepare to accomplish other tasks. Your understanding and support is greatly appreciated.
