No matter the circumstances of the death of a loved one and no matter how prepared we may be in terms of having selected a funeral home and particular arrangements, when the time comes we are not ready for the eventuality and need help. It was no different for me, having lost a beloved mother at the age of 102 who was under hospice care. I sought Cunningham Turch because it performed traditional Jewish rituals, although the arrangements were anything but traditional. What was important is that my mother's wishes be honored, which they were in every respect. I would like to thank Clint Oxendine, who I contacted first, and Gary Maxwell, with whom he consulted, for seeing to it that the personalized arrangements requested could be made. Keith Hambright, the funeral director, was throughout, responsive to my queries in a kind and compassionate way. Keith was personable, putting me at ease just when I needed comfort the most. I think the greatest tribute is to say that my mother would have really liked Keith and would have told him so.
Preparing the funeral for a beloved family member is never easy. Regardless if the death is expected or not, it's still a shock when it happens but funeral plans often need to be made quickly. Gary and his colleagues helped make the process easier. The decades of experience, offering gentle support, suggestions, and reminders, having a presence at all events to take care of the unexpected (e.g. delayed arrival at the cemetery and they let the honor guard know not to leave!), and quietly being there to answer questions was very appreciated. I recommend Cunningham Torch Funeral home without reservation.
The best Funeral Home in Alexandria Va, we held my brother in laws service here I cannot tell you what an amazing job Gary did putting everything together from the viewing before cremation to the end of service. Gary took the time to explain everything to our family plus he put us at ease during this difficult time. The service was beautiful Gary and Brenda made sure everything was going well throughout, the remembrance cards, thank you cards, pictures, banners were amazingly done and displayed.
Really Great. I highly recommend collaborating with Cunningham staff during a time of grief. They were amazing. Gary was helpful, responsive, friendly, informative.. The rest of the staff as well. I used a different funeral home in Lewes Delaware for cremation and then found Cunningham Turch for a local service. The employees were 100% different for the better at Cunningham. Such a great staff that our whole family felt comfortable with. Thank you Gary and staff
Our family had the unusual situation of moving my late father's remains from a Virginia cemetery to where my mother and the rest of the family now live. Gary Maxwell at Cunningham Turch was our guide, supporter, and multi-organization arrangement liaison through the whole process, culminating yesterday with his reassuring presence at a beautiful reinterment ceremony. We were in the best hands possible. Top marks to Gary and to Cunningham Turch!
