Very interesting history of the area and the settlers who first came here to inhabit this place and what they did to exist here.
The golf cart ride with guided narrative made it more enjoyable and allowed for a more interactive session
I'm happy to see places like this saved from developers and captured for posterity to be shared by all. The small charge to visit is reasonable.
We were lucky enough to get a tour guide name Bill
He only works on Sundays. Very Knowledgeable about this place. Your paid admission is good for all day so we went and had lunch and went back to explore our self.
Excellent nature hike. Just long enough to keep both my 18 year old and my 9 year old interested. Good signage. It can be hot so plan accordingly.
Don't miss this place when you are visiting the keys. It is an excellent resource for information on the keys. They have a lot of data on History the natural plants. They have a touch tank for some local marine animals. You can buy a little bag of fish food and feed their Aquarium of tropical fish. And you can take their golf cart tour of the area or walk the trails on a nature walk. There is a bird sanctuary and a museum there as well. They are pet friendly so you can do everything with your puppy.
The guided tour is well worth it for the stories and nature information. Look forward to clearing the pool of the overgrown trees. The nature is everywhere.
Sounded like fun. It turned out to be a dull walk through a mangrove. You are not allowed to see the Crane house as it is not open to the public.
Glad they decided to preserve some of the land!
Beautiful place. The trail are gorgeous, it feels like you're walking through the jungle, and it's one of the few places on the island you can get away from the traffic and people. It was great to see the birds being rehabilitated and to learn about the reasons they ended up there in the first place. It definitely makes you think about the impact you make on the ecosystem. They also gives you the fascinating history of the keys. Definitely recommend going there.
Hidden gem of the keys! So many beautiful nature trails and the rescue, rehab, release mission of the wild bird center is inspiring. Take a paddle tour! Well worth the time!
