This Consulate is AWESOME!!! We needed a Brazilian visa super short notice and the only Brazilian consulate that accepts walkins is this one in Hartford. We thought we needed to wait for hours in line but we were in and out in less than 45 mins!!! Everyone was super nice...friendly and made the whole experience something to write this review about!!!!!!!!! If there was a 20 star...they deserve it!!! Bravo:) We flew from Los Angeles btw.

Very well organized and efficient office. Staff was nice and I got in and out in an hour with a tourist visa. If you are on a schedule and need to walk in, show up at least a half our early, they open at 8 for walk ins.

I've really enjoyed my experience, but be warned and understand that not all people there speak great English! So communication may relay on an avg customer or person there. Haha.

Also PS!!! come early and tickets stop at 11:30am but walk ins are good after.

Went there 5 times in the last year for a series of Business and Work visas.

    The good:
    1. I've always gotten same-day service at this location.
    2. There's a small area for the kids to play (I have kids).
    3. I've gone walk-in without appointment and have always been able to get a turn.
    4. The personnel is very polite and helpful. I showed-up one day missing a letter and instead of dismissing me, they allowed me to fax it later that day.

    The bad:
    1. There is no information counter or receptionist (there used to be one in 2015) so it's not immediately obvious what you're supposed to do as you enter those doors. I learned that it is acceptable to approach one of the service windows to ask questions even when it's not your turn.
    2. No parking at the consulate (must go to garage or find street parking in Downtown Harford).
    3. An appointment at x-time doesn't mean that you'll get your turn at x-time, it just means that you'll take a number from a different category that has higher priority.
    4. Only USPS Money Orders accepted as payment

Overall: The experience will most likely be good and easy. US Government offices (Dept of State, IRS, Post Office, DMV) could definitely learn a bit on cadence and service from this consulate.

I went in today 02/24/16 and it was a wonderful experience, my husband went in to apply for a new passport and everyone was professional at all time and greeted very well. They helped us with all our needs and was such a pleasant visit.

What a great experience my mother and I had today at the Consulate of Brazil in Hartford! We are from NJ and usually go to the NY Consulate, but from the terrible service we experienced last time we were there, decided to visit the one in CT instead. Boy what a difference! The agents there were not only very kind to us, but also super efficient. They got the job done quickly which we really appreciated since we were pressed for time. The amount of professionalism this place has to offer was well worth the 2.3 hour drive there! Will be sure to come back! Thanks for a job well done. Kudos to the Hartford General Consulate of Brazil.

Love this place--they absolutely saved our trip. Eight weeks out we couldn't even get an appointment at the NYC consulate, so we took the day off work to drive up to Hartford to utilize the walk-in/drop-off option that they have regardless of your jurisdiction. We arrived when it opened (even though the website stated drop-off started later) and they were unbelievable nice. We were in and out within 25 minutes and were able to pick up our passports nine business days later with another easy in and out process. If you show up with all the paperwork in accordance to the website it is a breeze. Thank you Consulate General Of Brazil In Hartford for being so friendly and efficient!

This was the worse experience that I've encountered at a consulate facility! We had a scheduled appointment for 9am, which had been booked 2 months in advanced. When we arrived, the place was packed, meaning that all those folks were also booked for 9am (opening time), not to mention there were no chairs left! A man greeted us at the door and gave us a ticket with a number (like when your at the RMV)...but wait I had a booked appointment!? Sorry ma'am the process is different now. Okay, so I'm a reasonable person and thought I'll wait for my turn. 2 hours passed and they finally called our number, we sat down and reviewed our paperwork and required documents, the lady at the window(PATRICIA) seemed annoyed that she had to give us any extra information, and that we had our kids with us, anyway, she then proceed to give us yet another ticket w/ a different number. So I asked, how much longer until we are called again? she immediately got annoyed and answered.. listen when you come here you need set out a whole day, but don't worry it won't be long. I bit my tongue, but I wanted to give her a piece of my mind.
So we again waited another 2 HOURS! until they called us to another counter to digitally scan our fingers and sign some more paperwork. But tell me why this couldn't all be done by the same person? any how the lady said okay this is the final step, your passports should be done in 40minutes...Great! it's lunch time anyway so I'll be back just in time.
My family and I got back after 45mins and waited, waited and waited, my kids had been awesome for the past 5 hours patiently waiting quietly. I began to get really upset, walked to the counter and made clear that the way in which they were running that establishment was inefficient, extremely rude and inconsiderate! tell me why people they have appointments in the first place? I demanded all 4 of my passport within 15 minutes or else and....miraculously they were handed to me in 15minutes. A 6 hour ordeal!
I write in detail because, I just want to make sure that I'm heard and that they can improve the quality of their customer service skills, be honest with people, and be more efficient in running a government agency. I'm not sure that I ever want to travel to Brazil after that experience.
