This is a staple restaurant for the small town. The bread is to die for and their brunch is amazing. Seafood is wonderful. You can tell the difference in quality- theirs never lacks. You have to go here at least once.
Left the comfort and warmth of Ann Arbor and ventured out to Chelsea. Yes I live in my Ann Arbor bubble cause I like the food here. But hey! I ventured from my bubble and found this fancy joint. Mighty! Fine! Food!
Best restaurant west of Ann Arbor MI. $$ It is worth the price! This is a finer restaurant expreience with professional service and an actual chef. Great for good friends or a date.
We love this place!! Whenever my fiancee and I are in the area, we stop by here for the food and atmosphere. I believe the manager's name is Scott. He is always friendly, helpful and genuinely happy.
Side note we live in Oak Ridge, TN and travel to Michigan for business. Chelsea is a very warm and inviting place to visit.
Consistently great food. But is expensive, around $20-30 per person, dinner. Must plan around Purple Rose theatre schedule to avoid a long wait. Wish they'd bring back the old salad and raspberry dressing as a second choice.
We just had a most unsatisfactory experience. The food quality was "OK." However, the salmon portion ($28) was miniscule and it was served with three woody stalks of asparagus and a tiny serving of potatoes on a huge plate -- which made the portions look even punier. We pointed this out to our server and she sent the host over. We restated our complaint and he actually disputed what we were saying telling us that they figured the salad as part of the portion -- who doesn't? The most frustrating thing was the condescending way he talked to us. When the check came, I asked the server who else I could explain my concerns to and she said "I'm not allowed to take complaints" and said I should call. As I left, I pointed out to the host the manner in which had talked to us. He didn't apologize or otherwise demonstrate the least bit of interest in what I was saying. He simply said, "I wouldn't do that" and opened the door.
Deplorable.
This is not the service that has made the Common Grill famous. And it is certainly the sort service that, if experienced by a first-time patron, would at best discourage a second visit
Loved it. Clean open dining room where you don't feel like you're sitting on top of one another. We wanted to try everything so we settled on three appetizers, mushroom fries, whitefish dip and lobster spring rolls. Loved them all. Wait staff was awesome as well. Definitely worth the 20 minute drive from Ann Arbor.
Really good food and service. Excellent seafood selection with a lot of rotation based on what's available. I could eat about 3 baskets of their delicious bread.
My only complaint is that it's a bit loud when crowded and it can be hard to hold a comfortable conversation.
Amazing food with great service! Great place for the celebration of any event. Would highly recommend a reservation, especially for a group 4 or larger.
I have been returning to the common grill for over ten years, they have maintained the same level of high quality food and service the whole time. Everything on the menu is delicious!! Love love love the bread, and their side salad with pears and Gorgonzola is one of the best salads I've had. The pork belly is my absolute favorite and all the seafood/ pasta entrees are a must! Every server I've encounters has been incredibly friendly and considerate.
Great food with great decor. Their bread is phenomenal. Go here if you want a nice meal in Chelsea. Lots of variety as well as kind staffers
Food always great and fresh. They don't take reservations but you can call ahead and be "put on the list." Common is the owner's last name. Was happy to see a nice pasta selection back on the menu at last visit. Limited choices for those who are allergic to shellfish. That said, great fresh fish and seafood. Other signature dishes.
This is probably my favorite restaurant. The food is unique and always delicious, the drink selection is fabulous, and the desserts are second to none! Hint: even if you think you don't like bread pudding, try theirs -- the Warm Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding. It is delectable and beyond compare!
Prices match the upscale quality of the food but the setting is comfortable, busy, and generally casual. The place is a gem!
