One of Los Angele oldest bars. THIS PLACE SHOULD HAVE HISTORICAL PROTECTION. authentic old bar and eatery. Must come to experience and enjoy. Very little has changed with the looks and atmosphere hope they never modernize or remodel it would be a sin if they changed this place
One of my true "Happy Places". Obvipusly the French Dip is phenomenal and needs to be tried immediately. Then make your way through the nondescript door in the back of the room to be transported to a whole different world.
Limited menu; several kinds of French dip and beer; but both are phenomenal so worth a visit. I suggest you add the goat cheese; really helps the sandwich melt in your mouth.
This is where the French Dip sandwich originated and Cole's has been at this same exact location in Los Angeles since 1908. I just love their French Dip sandwich (which is a much better quality than Philippe's sandwich) along with an order of bacon potato salad. Cole's also serves up a very delicious bourbon pecan pie. I wish they would bring back dishes instead of paper on a sheet in which food is placed on. The paper tears after being wet by food such as coleslaw. Los Angeles gangster Mickey Cohen's corner table is still there near the bar.
Good dip sandwiches and fairly fast service. The combo is a pretty good deal with 1/2 a sandwich and a side. They have outdoor seating and plenty of seating inside. You have to order and pay at the counter, but they bring it to your table.
Home of the French Dip (that wasn't France you philistines!). There is an undisclosed speakeasy, if you know the password and an inordinate number of attractive and charming patrons (if you're into that sort of thing). Food is delicious and drinks are impeccable.
They only sell a couple things for dinner. Pretty much only French Dip sandwiches with a variety of meats. But they're all good.
They have a similarly small, but quality breakfast and brunch menu on the weeks and have a solid overall bar.
Oh, and The Varnish is in the back for a good old-fashioned speak easy with excellent cocktails.
Great ambience. Literally over 100 years old time machine. Went for what most say is the best bloody Mary...lived up to expectations. Claims to be the beef dip originators. So does Philippes down the street. I'm not sure which is true but I much prefer Cole's. The meat is stacked. The condiment are superb.
A historic cornerstone in DTLA's historic core. Order at the bar sandwiches and fried sides. Beer and wine also available. All the sandwiches are great and the sweet potato tots are a must try.
Been eating at Cole's for a while now. The menu is pretty narrow, but they excel in their sandwiches and sides. Staff is always fast and friendly. Great drinks.
Definitely try the speakeasy in the back (Varnish) if you go for dinner.
There were a lot of sandwiches shop opened on Tara val and I want to try them all.The reason I picked to try Grubbing' first because I was attracted by the hot garlic fries. I ordered the Juicing sandwiches. They have a lot big chunks of turkey ham inside. The sandwiches tasted delicious. The fried chicken wings was hot, crispy and yummy. Staffs works quickly, too. However, I took once star away cuss they kept the door open in a cold weather and wind blows inside the shop towards me. Definitely will try again in the future.
Spicy chicken + dutch bread is seriously heaven. I hate avatar when its all cold and gloomy which is like only always. But when I'm craving good grubbing...goddamn its worth the travel. This spot is probably the only piece of sunshine on the block and I do not doubt you will leave this place unsatisfied!
I remember the time their pastrami used to be twice as big, melt in your mouth.
That apply to many other pastrami houses.
May be pointless crying for dead tradition.
Nice atmosphere, some history of its own.
This place is well known for the wonderful French dip they have but you really must try the Breakfast dip sandwich. They only have it on the weekends but it is amazing. It is probably the best breakfast sandwich I think I have ever had. The bread is fresh baked and it comes with a side of Hollandaise sauce. Try the biscuits and gravy they are also amazing. The staff are very friendly.
Where do I even begin? You guys all need to try them out during Happy Hour! They have various selections in regards to chili oil tots to their yummy french dips. The decor is definitely a blast from the past, but that's not a bad thing. Definitely a great place to eat during HH. But please be safe cause skid row is around the corner.
