Tomek Amborski has been involved in fencing for over 40 years. While fencing competitively in his native Poland, he was three times National Champion (foil team), vice-champion (foil individual), and fenced in many international tournaments in all 3 weapons. After completing Warsaw University of Technology (with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering), he earned his Fencing Master diploma in 1978, along with his International Referee certificate. In early 80’s he was Polish National Junior coach. He moved to California in 1996 and helped build the Sacramento Fencing Club, with students winning medals in several World Cup tournaments. One former student fenced at the 2008 Olympics, bringing home a silver medal for the saber team event. During this time, Tomek refereed at several World Cups, University World Games, and World Championships, including gold medal matches.
Tomek moved to the Bay Area in 2003, and was involved in teaching fencing at GGFC (foil and epee). In 2004 he began assisting Anthony Joslin, at that time Provost, at Coastside Fencing Club. For two years Tomek was the Chair of Northern California USFA Division. Besides teaching at the academy, his activities also include refereeing, running training courses and examining new referees.
