One of my favorite local spots to camp. A great starting spot for the Virginia Capital Trail.
Great, State run, park with riverside camping available. Various ways to stay overnight from primitive camping to full hook up for recreational vehicles. Camp sites maintain a woodsy feel, however, there is plenty of wide open space for group activities. Swimming pool, driving range, and a large covered pavilion that can accommodate up to 100 people. We have been coming here for our church fall social for the past 3 years. My kids love late night fishing from the dock!
My group must have went on a bad night. Friday September 29. There was another group of campers from a YMCA. Some of their boys were unruly and very disrespectful. Some of the kids would come across the dirt road just to throw pine cones at our youth. One of our adults caught two kids attempting to do it a third time and he walked the kids back over and had an talk with one of their adults .Some of those kids were loud pass curfew, some left the water pump on. I woke up to walk to the restroom and there was empty soda cans on our side going to the restroom. Some old man ask another adult in our group in the bathroom how many kids with him. That was strange. That's not something you start a conversation with in a bathroom when adult has two small kids with him and you are an older man. Other than that wild night ito has beautiful scenery .
Always enjoy this place. Quiet and relaxing. Lovely waterfront.
Great place. Fished & Kayaked in Gordon Creek. Rode bikes on Va Capital Trail to Jamestown Settlement. Used golf driving range. Nice little store. Generous RV sites. Ours backs up to water. VERY friendly staff. Would definitely come back.
I love the Outdoor Pool at Chickahominy. They have a anack bar on site and they also have a covered area next to the pool where you can bring a picnic lunch with two grills available. I have not had the opportunity to use the canoe rentals but I hopefully will be able to in the future. :)
Good basic campground. The pool was nice on really hot days. The site picnic tables are narrow and not in great shape. The bath house was fairly clean, but very hot, no real ventilation. Very convenient to the Virginia Capital Trail, though the nearest food is still 5+ miles away, and the campground just has snacks.
If you are looking for family camping comparable to a National Park, skip this place. The overall facilities are nice, however the park attracts slightly seedy clientele. Had to switch sites because of a camper who thought heavy metal was appropriate to blast across the site, and there were still cars coming and going up until midnight.
Great little park with lots of activities for both kids and adults. And it's right on the Virgina Capital Bike Trail.
Paddleboarded here over Labor Day. Nice riverfront park on the mouth of the Chickahominy. Good facilities, boat ramp, pool, and camping. The tidal marsh is a must for fishing, kayaking, or SUP. Park is very clean!
The Chickahominy River is a local treasure. Park seems nice. Good place to launch your boat. Camping spaces. A nice general store.
A popular place to launch boats. Room for two trailers to back up to the launch simultaneously, lots of parking on the grass.
Friendly & helpful staff, clean bathhouse, an awesome pool, and an overall beautiful and well kept park. I can't say enough good about this place; my family and I will be back as soon as we possibly can!!!
