Most pleasant experience I’ve had in a long time! With old friends, pleasant weather and the typically elegant wonderful meal, the stars aligned. Terrific evening which will be repeated!

Unfortunately, an overall underwhelming experience. The food was good, but definitely nothing special. The service was extremely inattentive-- it was clear our waiter had way too many tables to handle. Our water glasses were consistently empty, were not asked if we'd like more wine or how our dinner was. Probably won't be back. I remember this restaurant being much better several years ago.

Easily one of the best restaurants in richmond hands down, French or otherwise. The food is superb and the service is just outstanding. Had my first date with my wife here, and we’ve now been married 3 years, it’s that good. Just had her latest birthday party here as well. Our server really went above and beyond, took cake and ice cream I had brought, added lit candles, then took it back to cut and serve with ice cream. This is truly one of the defining restaurant experiences that Richmond has to offer. You won’t regret making a reservation here.

Excellent food. Very well prepared and presented. The service is outstanding and very professional. Have been going to this restaurant for many years and anything in the menu is always prepared to perfection. The atmosphere is inviting to either a romantic dinner for two to a get together with friends. We cannot recommend it enough.

Had a great experience at Chez Max. The location was great, no problems finding parking. Inside, the decor was nice, upscale, dimly lit. The food was delicious! My wife and I had the artichoke hearts and smoked salmon for appetizers, which were both outstanding. I had a she crab soup, which was tasty, albeit a little salty. My wife had the rockfish with ratatouille for her main, which was excellent and I had the NY strip, which was very tender. It came with a peppercorn crust seasoning which gave it added flavor and mashed potatoes and string beans, both of which were delicious. For dessert, we had the apple peach tart and the molten lava cake. My only gripe would be that our server, although friendly, was not quite as attentive as I would have liked. We spent more time than I would have expected waiting to have plates collected, to get more water, to pick up the check, etc. We spent a little over two hours at the restaurant. That being said, I thought the prices were reasonable for the quality of the food and definitely look forward to returning and trying out some of their other menu items. UPDATE: Went back 2 yrs later with the family. Artichoke hearts were not as good as they were previously, different recipe or chef maybe. Salmon was not as good (flavorful)as I've had other places for less $. Service was still excellent.

One of the best French dining experiences Richmond has to offer. You must eat here whenever you get the chance.

Our favorite restaurant in Richmond! The atmosphere is inviting and the food is constantly superb. I always have the escargot and they never disappoint. Unfortunately escargot are a bit hard to find in Richmond so I can't help but order them each time we visit. They are prepared in a puff pastry with plenty of garlic. The salad and dressing are the perfect prelude to the main course. I tend to order the fish special which is usually halibut. It comes perfectly cooked with veggies and basil mashed potatoes. Yum! Dover sole is also a regular on the list of specials and it's served table side for a fun presentation. I read other reviews that say the entrees are bland but I haven't had that experience. I've loved everything and so have my fellow diners. Well worth the price!i
