  Hello this is DZ IZ your VDJ host for Classic Music Video Night at Cheezy’s. I wanted to check in and take the opportunity to thank the great owner Jaime, his mom, the awesome staff and my friend Tommy for allowing me to entertain the patrons with my tribute to the MTV Generation where you enjoyed watching your favorite classic music videos from the 80’s, 90’s and more. It was a pleasure and a blast to do this for those who came out and made it your entertainment destination ...in Ybor.

  I also wanted to let you all know that I am available for bookings if you’re interested in having a Classic MTV themed event. You’ve seen what I can do and I guarantee great time.

  It is with regret and a heavy heart to inform my patrons that due to struggles with health issues that has affected and limited my mobility I am forced to close the doors of Cheezy’s Italian Bistro & Speakeasy. On behalf of myself, my mom, my staff, That’s Amore, Pizza Pazza and all who helped in making Cheezy’s a favorite for many, we thank all of you that made us part of your dining and entertainment experience. This is not a last goodbye, it’s till we meet again as I am in the planning stages of a new venture that is more accommodating to me and my limited capacity. So stay tuned for the next chapter. Again thanks for all your support and best wishes. God Bless.

  “What is Freestyle music? Is it like Hip Hop?”

  This was an actual question that was PM’d to me by someone that was curious about the event.

  My answer: No.

  ...

  Freestyle (aka Latin Freestyle) is a dance music genre that came after the post disco era. Its origins in the 80’s came out and grew popular in the big urban sectors of the Northeastern part of the US, mainly NYC. Unlike other genres with urban roots Freestyle mainly expresses all aspects of Love. From romance to heartache almost every song deals with the issues of intimate relationships. From the early pioneers like Shannon, Lil Suzy to later superstars like Stevie B. The topic stemmed around love. That is probably why it has a huge following with Latinos. We are by nature hopeless romantics. In any event, please support this monthly event and keep Freestyle alive. Peace, Love and Dance!
