The vastness of this park is really remarkable. There are tons of areas to visit and lots of trails to hike. Whether you are looking for trees or rivers or just some fresh air, you are really going to find it here. Parking fees are pretty low, if they are even required at all. Great way to spend a weekend afternoon.

Beautiful scenery and views of the river. Trails are limited, but perfect for a short hike. Great place to picnic, fly fish, or enjoy many riverside views.

Beautiful place for a picnic, or a hike! Trails are very beautiful. The trail goes right next to the river, with breathtaking views of the rapids. There are tons of cliffs and overhangs on the side. If you go further down the trail there is a place were rocks jut out into the middle of the river. You can walk down to the end, and be surrounded on all sides by water. This is a great place to take pics, or eat lunch. If it is your first time going here, you should take at least 2-3 hours of your time since it is a national park, and you have to check out the visitors center.

It's a great place to do a bit of nature seeing. It's a walking trail, not a hike. There are some upward hills, but nothing too strenuous that would tire you out. It's covered by a lot of trees, so plenty of shade. There's also a path that follows along the river, so it's pretty cool. If you're looking for something quick with just a hint of nature, this is definitely something to check out. It's also free, except for the parking.

A National Park right in Atlanta ' s neighborhood. It's spread out over miles of the Chattahoochee river so a car is almost necessary, but lots of nature opportunities at each section.

Quiet trails along the river. Wear sturdy shoes/sneakers, sunhat, bug spray and sun protection. We were looking for a fishing spot, however we need a handicapped helpful place. The trail down to the river is not for a rugged 4 wheeler walker. I went a short distance and realized, I was putting myself in jeporady. It looks like a fun place to walk and go fishing. We were told by a local vendor, that he had great luck with trout and bass.
Maybe next time. If there are 5 handicapped parking spots, do handicapped ppl fish ? Yes. Handicapped ppl pay taxescould we get a ramp ????

This is a wonderful trail along the Chattahoochee River. While it is not a mountain trail, the trail has some nice slopes and hills which give the trail a little bit more of a challenge as opposed to merely a walk in the park. The views of the Chattahoochee at Island Ford are absolutely beautiful. This is a must see trail for those who have not hiked here before. Perfect for hikers of all skill levels, children and dogs.

Not much to see at the visitor center. Park has an access fee. Looked interesting if you were boating or canoeing. Saw different hiking spots where you could park and get out before visitor center.

Even on the most wintery of days in Atlanta, I was able to make it out to the scenic and easily accessible Chattahoochee River National Park. This jewel in the middle of the city is the perfect place to be immersed in the relaxing properties of nature. The NPS staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The park itself was easy to navigate, and relatively easy to hike trails are given even more atmosphere by the presence of the river and the creatures that live there. In the event your internal compass becomes compromised, there are numerous maps on the grounds to help you follow the path.
This National Park provides a beautiful environment for many outdoor activities, appropriate for all seasons and all age groups. On my next visit I'll either be trying my luck at fishing, or paddling down the river.
Whether you have a couple hours or the entire day, by yourself or with friends and family, it would be well spent at the Chattahoochee River National Park.

OK so this is a VERY nice park with a great river access. Only thing is if you come with a kayak then be prepared for shallow water which can often damage the fiberglass ones so I would use hard plastic ones instead. In terms of fishing do not expect much but you can easily get some yellow fin small fish, nice experience for kids. Park rangers are often touring the park and feels very safe and clean, plus they are super nice. Keep in mind that it is also a residential area so noise need to be kept to minimum. Enjoy!

If you are looking for a fun place to explore in the Atlanta area this is a great place to go. Just off GA 400 the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is a fun place to get away from it all. There are miles of hiking trails (no bikes allowed) to explore at the Island Ford Park. Sit by the river and watch the nature flow by or try out your new kayak in the area around the park. The park rangers are a great source of information. Great place to get outside.
