I found two cute and well behaved dogs without collars in my neighborhood about 3 miles away from The Charleston Animal society, I tried to find the owners on my own driving around and posting to Facebook after about an hour I googled where to turn them in in Hanahan and EVERYWHERE on google said to turn them into Charleston Animal Society.
Upon arriving they had me leave them in the car and proceeded to tell me that because I did not find them in Charleston County, that I had to take them all the way to Monks Corner! They did not even bother to check them to see if they had microchips.
I took them to a nearby vet where they did a check and they DID have a microchip! The vet was happy to take them and call the owners.
For a business that is suppose to represent Charleston you have yet to impress me!

A wonderful organization working to help the misplaced animals of this world. Not only have they taken on the job of the local pets, they also recently took on the animals stranded by the torrent of storms affecting the many island of the tropics this year. What a great team!!! 😀💗

We had such a great experience adopting our dog! They were very honest with us about her behavior during her time there rather than trying to make every animal seem perfect. They were very trustworthy and extremely willing to go the extra mile to help you find exactly who you're looking for. The adoption process is simple and all the supplies you need are right there in store (though their selections aren't super large, so you might end up wanting to check elsewhere). The events they host are a lot of fun too! They definitely love their animals and want to find them forever homes. I HIGHLY recommend adopting your next family member from here!

The Charleston Animal Society is wonderful and full of big hearted people who really care. After the last storm, I found a small dog near our home who was covered in fleas, had eye infections and was missing teeth or had teeth barely hanging on with what looked like mouth abscesses. I'm so happy they take animals in that need care like this so they can have a better life!

They obviously have money to treat their animals well while they are there. However, we adopted a dog from here that they briefly mentioned "might have light issues with some loud children." When we walked him later at home, he seriously snapped at the kid, which was a surprise. Definitely downplayed that issue on their part. I get it, they want the dog in and out, but for something like that it seemed a bit irresponsible to do that. Also, he was very sick when we got him (kennel cough & a skin infection, which granted, for the latter, they told us about and we knew about going in.) This wasn't THAT big of a deal, but when we called them to cash in on the "free" medicine or treatment they offered to new dogs, they never, ever answered their phone. I called and left several messages when the dog's kennel cough turned into a medical emergency. Luckily, the vet they suggested was awesome and let us in last second. Anyway, overall good, and well-meaning, but lacking in other ways. Thus, 3 stars.

They do great work. Took my White Lab there to ne "fixed". They took very good care of her.
They had had plenty of staff to check everyone in and answer any questions.
My Lab is doing great 2 days post op.

If you want a pet, please adopt. You'll have a fur-ever friend you'll never forget. Everyone here was friendly and helpful while my grandson picked out his new Nanny dog for it birthday. It was an adventure we will never forget!😄

Great place to adopt. We adopted a young dog that had a health condition so we did the foster to adopt program in which CAS pays for all health related costs and when the animal is cleared as healthy you can adopt. Don't worry, no one can adopt the animal in your care. Pay when the animal is completely well. We got our dog for only $25. This place is clean the the staff is friendly. Be sure to bring collars/leashes/cat cages whatever with you though because if you adopt and don't have your own, CAS will not let you hand carry your new pet out of the building. I agree with this because of safety reasons but if you don't bring your own you will have to buy from them. It's not overly pricey but it's worth mentioning. Keep up the good work yall!

Out of all the pets I have owned, the best ones have come from here. I appreciate their dedication and hard work to take care of animals that other people neglected to take care of or didn't want. I am so happy a place like this exists where you can meet and greet with the animals they have and you can give one (or 2 or 3) a second Chance at a life they deserve and they can bring happiness and satisfaction to yours.
