The team from CertaPro did an amazing job, I was very pleased with every part of the job. I would absolutely hire them again. They also came in at a lower price than the other 2 bid we got.
I had a mixed experience while working with Certapro. Generally I went with a larger company expecting higher quality and customer service. I got good customer service during the planning phase however the execution was poor.
Quoting process: Quoting process was fine however a bit slow. We wanted a few different options quotes out which wasn’t a problem however it as generally a couple of days turn around.
Color selection: Certapro provided a color consultant that was excellent, couldn’t of been better and was very happy with this service.
Day of execution: This is where things fall apart for me. It was impossible to get a clear picture of when the crew was going to be there. I was told Monday and then ultimately they showed up on Thursday if I needed to take off work to be present (which turned out to be necessary ) I would of had to take off the entire week.
Power washing was done almost a week ahead of time by the crew manager which was fine. On the day of however the crew manager was not there. The crew (who were very nice) did not speak English well and were apparently on their own and had to call when I asked about anything. The crew were in unmarked cars and clothes, it wasn’t clear at all they were working for Certapro.
This turned out to be a huge problem as several details were never effectively communicated to the crew. For me this was two big areas, 1 was the addition of some areas that needed to be painted, 2 was the desire for exterior caulking to be performed. The first was handled after I noticed they had not been done, the second was extremely difficult to communicate. While some caulking was done, unless I pointed it out it was not caulked. Note this is something I had directly added to the quote. Additionally any caulking that was done was done post painting, three was no cleanup of damaged caulk or smoothing of areas with caulk before paint. Do not expect your house exterior to be caulked if working with this company.
Quality: “2 coats” are applied however these are done at essentially the same time, meaning in reality only 1 thick coat is applied. The paint was thin in areas as a result, and the crew seemed worried about using too much paint. In other areas there were huge drips, were taking on my garage door trim where it was vet obvious. the ape work was quick and not very precise leaving some weird transitions. And finally paint spots were left on my concrete when the crew left.
Final impression:
Not impressed with this company, certain aspects were good but the final execution was poor. Go with a local small company that will care about your business more. This company was the equivalent of hiring a cheap handyman with an expensive premium.
Hugo and the other painters TRANSFORMED our home. It went from brown and ugly to bright and beautiful. We have gotten so MANY compliments from our neighbors and we absolutely love it. Courtney made the whole experience easy and quick. We HIGHLY recommend! Even better, we paid half of what some of our other bids were.
5/18/19 Update: Their response is another lie. They've made no effort to reach me. In fact, they cut off communication, and told me that they and Sherwin Williams would file a lien on my property if I didn't pay them. I've had 6 painters bid on fixing the mess they left and the price is consistently substantially more than the original contract amount. The most outlandish lie he has told so far is that paint doesn't conduct electricity so the paint in the switches could not have caused the electricity to go out. I am dumbfounded by the despicable way this James Benton guy operates. Steer clear.
5/16/19 I want to warn you about Certapro Twin Cities East. Check their BBB reviews. I hired them to paint the inside of our house. They seemed very professional and were responsive to my concerns and emphasis on quality and improving the finish on our woodwork and walls. At this point, however, I could not be more disappointed. They left a disastrous unfinished paint job and a huge mess. They damaged to our electrical, hvac, wood floors, door and window hardware. The left off electrical plates, put things back together wrong, and did just a terrible job. Finally, they had an internal dispute with "one of their best painters" regarding mistakes and problems they were having and the subcontractor walked off the job. He left with the painting unfinished, some windows still taped, paint, trash, and half of the house with no electricity, missing hardware, misplaced hardware, globs, drips, garbage in the paint Certapro is a textbook example of how incompetence combined with low character lead to huge costs. They’ve used manipulative, dishonest tactics, and as far as this project is concerned they broke the bottom out of the grade F—Failed in competence, fail in character, fail business…
Great job, attentive and professional contractors. Went the extra mile with the painting and the financing.
It's rare to see such quality on both the project and office sides of a business. Highly recommended!
