Description

Cazadores Mexican Restaurant spices up West Pensacola.
There are more than 50 items on the menu at Cazadores Mexican Restaurant, and Steve Scott has tried every one of them. "I start at the top of the menu and work my way down," Scott said. A self- admitted Mexican food addict, he has sampled that cuisine all over the Southwest.
Dining at Cazadores is a family affair for the Scotts. They recently were having lunch with three visiting grand-daughters,son Russ and his two boys. Although kids can choose from their own menu, Russ Scott's 1-year-old son, Cameron, prefers the grown-up fare.

"He loves the rice, beans and tortillas," Russ said.

Courtney, one of the Scotts' visiting granddaughters, went for a traditionally American steak and salad. Other typically American dishes include a variety of burgers, french fries and hush puppies.

Ruth and Steve were delighted when Cazadores opened on Fairfield Drive nine months ago. Prior to that, the Myrtle Grove residents traveled regularly to Orange Beach, where Cazadores onwer Ismael Rodrigues managed a Mexican restaurant.

It's not surprising that families feel comfortable at Cazadores.

"This is a family-owned restaurant," said Ismael Rodriguez, whose brother Choa is the head chef.

Natives of Guanajuato, Mexico, the Rodriguez family brings the real thing to Pensacola. The menu includes such authentic Mexican dishes such as chiles rellenos, Mexican peppers stuffed with beef and topped with green sauce and melted cheese.

The Rodriguez brothers don't stint on quality or quantity. Generous portions of tender beef steak and fresh vegetables arrive on sizzling griddles along with fresh, not frozen, tortillas for jajitas. Eight- and 10-ounce steaks, served Mexican style, and grilled chicken , beef or shrimp salads satisfy the heartiest of appetites.

Steve Scott always brings a hearty appetite to Cazadores. But what happens after he has sampled everything on the menu?

"When I get to the end," he said, "I just start all over again."
