About our soaps:
Soaps are made using a variety of oils, usually coconut and olive, sodium hyroxide (lye), goat milk, mica or other pigments for color, and either essential oils or fragrance oils for scent. Before you freak out over lye, any real soap is made with lye. The chemical process where the lye reacts with the oils is called saponification. Once this process is done, the lye is no longer present in the soap, and the ph level is checked and verified.
I'm no science major, and just the thought of chemistry makes me get the heebie-jeebies. But soaping has come a long way from Great Grandma Ruth's lye soap made from her ashes in the woodstove, and technology has made it easy for goat farmers like me to understand how to make a good quality soap that you will love to use!
