Calhoun County was founded on March 5, 1856, and was named after South Carolina Politician John C. Calhoun. Calhoun County is located in west central region of West Virginia. It's county seat is Grantsville. As of the 2010 census, the population of Calhoun County was 7,627. Calhoun County consists of 281 total square miles, which includes 279 square miles of land, and 1.4 square miles of water. Major highways in Calhoun County consists of US Rt. 33/119, Rt. 16, and Rt. 5.
