I've used C&J for a couple months after the train service was disrupted over the summer. Here's my full assessment. The buses are very clean and offer small waters, newspapers, and there is complimentary coffee in the station before you leave (it's not Starbucks but it's OK in a pinch). The drivers I've experienced are competent and friendly. I gave four stars instead of five because of the logistical challenges that sometimes occur prior to boarding. I typically travel from Newburyport to South Station and purchased a monthly pass to do so. The drawbacks I've experienced consist mainly of parking and a couple boarding issues. The Newburyport facility can get crowded and finding an open space after 6:30 a.m. can be tough. They do offer free valet service, which is nice, but the lack of parking spaces adds to a stressful commute. I was told that the lot is owned by the state, not C&J, so it's not there fault, but it's frustrating at times. The buses are in very good condition and the double deckers are very comfortable. The seats are a tad bit small for the average guy but nothing like airline coach accommodation where you're packed in like sardines. It can be a little tough to relax on the bus, depending on the driver's abilities, because unlike a train - a bus is like a car and when the driver has to brake in a hurry, it can jolt you. I'd also recommend monthly pass holders get a preferred boarding line so that they were guaranteed a seat over single ticket holders. Occasionally, people are told to wait for the next bus due to lack of seats and it seems like if you're going to pay nearly $350 for a monthly pass, there should be some preferred treatment there. I'm switching back to the train next month but will use C&J for occasional transport to and from Logan Airport. Hopefully, this review will help.
Excellent value. Reliable scheduling. Pleasant ride with wifi, papers, heat a/c. Helpful people loading and unloading luggage. Door to bus stop. No worries about parking at airport.
This would be convenient if you actually were booked for the bus you bought a ticket for. First come first serve is a terrible idea when people are trying to catch a flight. The system is terribly disorganized and it might honestly be worth driving and parking at Logan if I have to.
We had a round trip ticket and we caught the 11:10 from Logan. The bus said Dover, Portsmouth, and Newburyport but for some reason I was told I couldn't get on because another bus was coming. Um what? Before the bus left, my husband asked why we could not board and the driver apparently changed his mind and let us on. Talk about unprofessional.
I will NOT be taking C&J again, even if it's the last bus on earth.
On monday coming home from the Marathon from boston on the 7pm bus to Newburyport we had an awesome Driver.-he handled expertly and compassionately an intoxicated passenger and got him off the bus safely.
The best way to get to Logan is C&J. Great drivers, stress free and affordable.
Good service! Like it!
I wish Logan had a better set up for this, but it's a good service.
a C & J Logan airport bus while leaving the terminal encroached on my lane and knocked off my rear view mirror.. a careless incompetent driver.. use this service at your peril !
