The burger lived up to my expectations, and the waffle fries were delicious. I love a good waffel fry!
The place was busy on a Friday night and we were in and out quickly. We'll definitely be back the next chance we get!

We visited the Brown Bear after a long day at Michigan's Adventure amusement park. We rented a place nearby and not knowing the area quickly realized there's not much in the way of food around. Especially at 10:30pm. I called the BB and they said they were open until 11pm so we headed over from New Era.

Upon arrival I was a little concerned, it looked to me more of a dive bar than a restaurant. We had 12 in our party 7 of which were children. But they welcomed us in and took our order. As the menu indicated the burgers are what they are famous for so most of us had a variation of the BB burger.

Once delivered we all shared notes on how they were, turns out they were great! Everyone’s was cooked to perfection and they tasted amazing. A couple of us got some of the odder toppings and they too were great. Even the kids that got chicken strips or quesadillas were happy. All in all we couldn't have asked for better food. They were also very quick and super friendly. I really expected to get some attitude about all the kids and ordering late at night but they thanked us repeatedly for stopping in and offered us anything else we might want.

I would highly recommend the Brown Bear, great burgers and kind folks.

Great bar with burgers that brink on legendary in the greater West Michigan area. It's worth making it in to this original location to get the full experience. The interior feels uniquely old fashioned with an assortment of mismatching chandeliers throughout. The friendly staff are great at what they do and so are the cooks in the kitchen. The burgers live up to their reputation. You can't go wrong with a whimpy, cub, or bear burger but their specialty burgers are terrific too if you like a little extra creativity between your buns. My personal favorite menu items are the Pin-o-peno burger, poor man's wings, and their home made soups.

We were greeted upon entering the restaurant, fast and friendly service. Amy (wait staffer) was very cheerful. Food was good but 🍷 not so much. Should have ordered 🍺.

We were really hungry, decided to split a burger (luckily) Thought it was kinda pricey- but we were ok with it especially when it came to the table!
We burst out laughing - it was so huge! It was like a small birthday cake! took 1/2 home!

Was just expecting more from what I had heard from people. Went back last weekend and everything was much better. Maybe they just had an off day the first time we went

What an Awesome place to eat!!! The door to enter the tavern really doesn't let you know what a beautiful place it is on the inside! The wood work is outstanding! Our server was very friendly, quick with our drinks & menus. The cook brought our delicious homemade appetizers out in record time! Our meal also came out very quickly, piping hot, deliciously cooked, and huge portions! I recommend The Brown Bear to Anyone taking a drive by Shelby! We might just take a drive to get another great meal!
