One of my favorite state parks in Georgia. Great trails for beginners to advanced. Suggest proper hiking boots for any of trail with some elevation to it.

Great place to hike and visit. Nice views. If RV camping, take the camper size limits seriously. There are only a few spots adequate for 5th wheels or trailers over 25".

Incredible state park. You would think you are in the Smokey Mountains. Very steep grades, campsites on the top of the mountain (be warned, some are tough to back into with campers), short hiking trails. Access to a tiny lake (note: the lake is drained once a year making it unusable) that is stocked with trout and easily accessible. Visitor center up top has fantastic views (unless there are clouds rolling by.. it happens often!).

This state park is a must do. Always a few degrees cooler than down the mountain. Small campground great for tents, pop-ups & smaller travel trailers. Clayton is a short 5 miles down the hwy with a quaint downtown area. Great stop over on your way to Blue Ridge mountain area.

It's a gem, and well worth the drive. All the locals we interacted with were friendly, and staff handled the eclipse 2017 crowds well. From almost solitude along the trails to (rare) crowds watching the eclipse, we had a wonderful time. Les' "eclipse" canjo making was fun, paddling the lake was relaxing, and we sweated buckets going up and down the trails. Night or day, views are great. Even in summer, temperatures were pleasant. Great place to visit or stay a while.

2 great trails.. lots of up & down.. perfect as heart rate excersize..loved it.. lots of greenery.. Trails are narrow.. one person can walk at a time.. very few people but worth to go overlook at 3625 feet is awesome.. don't forget to go there..

Our second time here and another great experience. Well maintained campsites + clean bathrooms + low-difficulty trails with great views = excellent family car camping spot. This is a great go-to spot for summertime camping as the park's elevation keeps temps at least 10 degrees cooler than the valley. Heads up, the raccoons are brave and will inspect any unattended coolers, and food containers even in broad daylight.

The views are GORGEOUS! To get to the park you must pass an extremely winding road. Would not recommend for large campers, motorcycles or RVs the corners were a little scary in my sedan! We camped in backcountry campsite #4 and it was PERFECT. You can park near the lake and the hike is about a mile in. You also can park near the visitors center and park in but the hike is much further. The hike is GORGEOUS. Many small creeks and mountain views. The last thing you see before your campsite is a very large waterfall that runs very clear water. We used this waterfall to drink from (filtered of course!)! The site was of ample size and had two benches and an established fire ring. Even in the middle of July the temperature was perfect and got to about 65 at night. But beware this is bear country! Hang your food or use a bear canister. They do require you to sign a waiver for the bears so just be aware! We also saw many snails, slugs, and also two small owls which was all amazing! They are closed from Mid December-March due to icy roads so he aware of that as well! Highly recommend this beautiful park! We will be back!

The moment I stepped out of the car, I knew we made the right decision to come here. This place was fantastic. Not many people, more than one look-off, and a visitor center for gifts or a memoriam made this place ideal to visit. There was no trash around and the area was well taken care of. It is a state park, so the fee would be $5 for parking.

The staff was very friendly; the 2.2-mile trail was beautiful, clean, well-marked, and a slight challenge; there were at least three great lookout points; and there were numerous trails of varying lengths. The lake is not for swimming, but the creek that feeds into it is nice to splash in.
Overall, I'm glad we stopped here. If I were in the area and had time to kill like we did today, I'd come back again. I would like to try the 7-mile trail.response / report this review -

Friendliest park staff I have ever encountered! This is a beautiful park and the hiking is wonderful. We went for the day, but will definitely be back to camp!

First time going and I loved it. The trip here was unplanned and I don't regret it. $5 parking fee and the trails can be tedious and narrow at times but they're worth it to see nature at its finest. There were unique plants and as you walk around on the trails (I walked the Tennessee trail) I ended up getting lost but eventually found my way. The two employees I ran into at the store at the top were so kind even though it was time for closing. They smiled, carried on a conversation and looked like they took pride in their job. The views were beautiful swell. I highly recommend.
UPDATE: I walked the 7.2 mile trail today. If you want exercise then it's worth it. Unique nature as always but the views are not too well only one great view which was lookout mountain.response / report this review
