Berrien Springs Public Schools’ Alternative Education Program opened its doors on August 26, 2002. Applications for admission to the program are currently being accepted. The program is targeted for high school age students who are considering withdrawing from school or who are having a difficult time in a traditional high school setting. Interested students who are currently in Berrien Springs High School should contact Mrs. Mangu-Bergan, School Counselor at the High School. Other students, please call 269-471-2593 to schedule an appointment.

Course work for the program focuses on the Career Pathways model and on preparing youth for the workforce. Students study core subjects such as English, Math, Science and History, while also picking up coursework in career preparation and technology education. The program emphasizes small group instruction. Classroom facilitators work with students to develop skills necessary to become productive members of the community. The Alternative Education Program works in collaboration with area agencies such as Work First and the Department of Career Development to offer students opportunities that will develop their understanding and experiences in career path education.
