I gave 5 stars, but I really wanted to give 4.5 Stars. Bern's Steakhouse is legendary, and that status is well deserved. The food was astoundingly good. The restaurant is old, quaint, and kitschy, but still elegant. The half star I would take off would be for my server. He was almost perfect as you would expect for the price you're paying. People at my table had to wait for drinks a few times, however. He was slow in bringing food that was requested on more than one occasion. In a regular restaurant, his service would have been fantastic. For Bern's Steak House however, which has the best servers on Earth, he was less than perfect. Otherwise, Bern's Steak House was an amazing experience.
Wonderful place. The waiters are beyond amazing, they know every single detail about the place. Coupled with a great wine selection, and superb meat the experience was, in American terms, amazing. The T-Bone was delicious and the wine, even being French was very good (😉). Dessert in the dessert room were really good. I only missed being able to order a plain Key Lime Pie, so typical from Florida. Lovely place.
DISAPPOINTED AND UPSET! Major milestone event was planned and reservations were made months in advance. Upon arrival, our "party" of twelve was separated into two groups of ten and two. The two were 8 feet away! Six of us ended up having to find another restaurant to accommodate us! This was extremely difficult as every place was booked by this point. We did not want to choose which two were separated! Horrible! Family flew in for this event. My husband has entertained many a customer at Bern's over the years, enjoying steaks and fine winesnever again! They treated us horribly. We confirmed the reservation the day before and were told we may be split into two groups of six, which we agreed would be fine. Thenwhen we arrived, we were told that was not noted in our reservation. I'm sure our having to leave will not affect their bottom line and certainly felt like that was their attitude that night. Horrible and sad as we have been looking forward to this for THREE MONTHS! So sad.
I think this is the best Steakhouse experience I have ever had. There may be others as good or better, but I haven't tried them. I first heard about Bern's in the early 80"s, they were probably the top place in Tampa at the time. I had the good fortune in those days of an expense account, and got to dine here regularly in the close to bordello like environment. . I have remained a happy loyal customer since then. I love the steaks, the way they prepare them, the pricing by the ounce, and the ability for 2 or 3 people to split a larger steak. The Caesar salad is awesome, and will be one of the best you have had. All the side items are awesome as well. The wine list is legendary. The servers are all top professionals and take great care of the diners.I have had many people comment about Bern's when I mention Tampa. It is probably the second most famous business in town. The addition of the Desert room made an great place better, giving you a second area to move to for Deserts and after dinner drinks.
I had dinner at Bern's a few years back, with my mother and older brother, as we were celebrating Mother's Day and had chosen the prized steakhouse as our eatery for the night.
Thankfully, Bern's most certainly did not disappoint!
It was our trio's first time dining at the establishment, and we left with memories made and satisfied palettes. The food was delicious, the tours enlightening, and the desserts upstairs: simply phenomenal! I made it a point to let all of my friends and family know that—even if once—they ought to treat themselves to a Bern's experience.
Our waiter was a gem though I am heart-pressed to say that I have since forgotten his name. Hopefully he is still there and if by any sort of grace, I should come to have him wait on my table once more. Or someone just as competent and kind.
If you are looking for a unique culinary indulgence, then give Bern's Steakhouse a try! My boyfriend and I will be celebrating our 2yr anniversary there, this coming Friday. He has never been to Bern's and I am looking forward to yet another grand time.

EDIT: My boyfriend and I had a fantastic night! Our waiter was a kid gentleman named Bruce who was very accommodating and easy to talk to (both during dinner and while on the tour). We also had a phenomenal waitress named Ashley, upstairs at the dessert room. I am beyond glad to have had such a perfect evening.
Everyone knows that Bern's has amazing food- and they definitely do! And their service is top notch, too- but I give it three stars for being out of touch with modern day. The atmosphere is very stuffy, and it feels like an old-boys-country-club that hasn't been updated since the 1980's. If you're looking for food and service, this place is great, it really is. And it's worth it for a one time experience. But if you just want a good steak and some atmosphere, there are other restaurants in Tampa. Separate out any of the elements and someone out there is doing just as good of a job and they are catering to people under the age of 70.
I had a really great experience here. The dessert room of course was wonderful and so breath taking. I ordered the 8oz sirloin which was very juicy but also pretty small for an 8oz. All entrees do come with a salad, French onion soup, and a baked potato which was very delicious. They have a wide variety of drinks and a very exquisite wine cellar. Great night.
Went here for my birthday with my pregnant wife. As we all know occasionally pregnant women are hard to please (my wife included.) Everything was cooked to perfection, the service was better than top tier Disney world service. After dinner the tour was fun and informative before heading to the desert room. The desert room feels dated, but quaint, and the private booths for your party are wonderful to unwind and enjoy the desert offerings. I never write full reviews, but for BERNS I did. Don't let the price tag fool you, it's worth every penny.
Bern's makes a great steak, no doubt about it. The supper club style works and the dessert room is lots of fun for a date/couples.
However, I have to say I find myself drawn to the bar whenever I am there. At first, it was just to have a cocktail before dinner. Now, we just saddle up to the bar or one of the couchs; order steak tartar and dirty martinis, rather than dropping a few hundred dollars in the dining room.
To each there own, I like to move at my own pace and when eating that pace is slow. The bar allows for a more a la cart dining experience that doesn't have to break the bank.
If you're a first timer, check out the private wine cellar and kitchen tour. Do the whole experience at least once, and then go home and slide into your loving steak coma.
However you chose to dine, you are leaving happy and full.
Bern's is not just a place to eat. It is a 3-4 hour experience if done correctly. You MUST make reservations here, ask your server all the questions you can imagine, they are very knowledgeable about the food and history of Bern's. This place boasts the largest private wine collection in the entire world. Ask your server to see it, you will be impressed. Take the kitchen tour and then go visit the desert room! You won't regret your visit here.
My favorite restaurant in the world! World class steaks and service. Their waiters have to train for 2 years before they can wait on tables. Their steaks come with French onion soup, salad, baked potato, and onion rings. All included in the price, which isn't as expensive as you would think. It's such an experience! Don't forget to go take a tour of their kitchen and their massive wine collection. Also, go to their dessert room upstairs.
Most girls love to dress up and have her hubby take her out for a night on the town. Caesar salad & of course the steaks are to die for. I recommend coming here for special occasions, anniversaries, or first date. Prepare to spend about $300 on dinner & the desert room. It's worth it on those memorable occasions.
My family went to dinner for my son's graduation last week. We expected a certain quality of food preparation with the accolades we have heard, but were disappointed! Out of five of us, three of the steaks were overcooked and seemed no better quality than our own cooked at home. Certainly they were not of the same quality we have enjoyed at other Tampa steak houses. The atmosphere, drinks and sides were poor too. I will not waste $500 on this place again!!!
Like they need me to give this place another review. Beautiful decor with top of the line service and the highest quality food, Bern's is as good as it gets in Tampa. I have to imagine this is a wonderful place for a wine connoisseur to spend an evening tantalizing their palette, as they have the largest selection I have ever seen. The steak can't be beat, and the dessert room is an experience all its own. Surprisingly, if you avoid a $5,000 bottle of wine, Bern's is not that much more expensive than any other quality sit down dining experience. Great place to bring out of town guests if you'd like to turn them on to Tampa.
