Personally don't prefer apples here because they are kinda sour even for those supposed to be sweet, but really like they have many options of apples. Pears are the best here, super sweet. And people who work here are friendly.
I have been picking apples at Averill's Farm since I was fumbling around grabbing "drops" under a Baldwin tree as a toddler overseen by my mom, Marge. We lived in Danbury and while there were still a handful of nice orchards in that area, she chose to drive 40 minutes north to Baldwin Hill in Washington, CT to pick what she considered to be the best of the best. Fast forwardin the late 70's I meet Sam Averill and later, his wife Susan, sang a song at their wedding (during blossom "show" season) out in the orchard and, now, in my later 60's, I still go there. The sheer history, the variety of fruits, the positive energy and the love that lives on that hill is a beacon. So if you haven't been there, go! If you've been thinking of going there but haven't yet, shame on you! Fix it right away.
