  playfully tasty. lots of depth into each and every dish. Takes time to discover the hidden taste. Lobster noodle soup is Awesome !!!

  Delicious and very inventive tasting menus, with thoughtful wine pairings. Only four stars for me though, as several dishes seemed to focus on a certain interesting concept but ended up lacking flavor (or having a less-than-great flavor). Obviously they've got to keep doing research to keep the menus fresh, but maybe turn the testing down a little bit and include another showstopper or two.

  Fine Breakfast. If this will be your first time, I recommend to familiarize with the menu BEFORE get there. No waiter service. You have to make the line, choose and pay all before breakfast.

  Food was underwhelming. Chef was clearly skilled, but the the flavors chosen were either bland or did not come through. The wines chosen for the pairings were okay. Service started out lacking but got better once we were one of the few tables left. It may have been an off night, but it did not seem like the value was there for the price point.

  Asta is one of the best restaurants in Boston. In Europe you find many exploratory food restaurants much more expensive and less creative. Alex the chef who I known for years truly understands food and takes risks to create fun, unique and challenging dishes. The person who gave them a 1 star is off! In a restaurant that is casual and a "temple to food" you have to be prepared for all kinds of flavors and experiments!

  I've been to Asta a total of 3 times. I was most impressed when they first opened. We had gone all out with the 8-course menu with wine pairing. The server was a true professional. I thought the food was more inventive the first 2 times.A seat at the bar table up front gives a great opportunity to be close to the preparation. My most recent visit involved a mixture of 3- and 5-course menus. 70% of the dishes impressed people and 30% fell flat. I would recommend trying this place out. Cozy ambience and neat tables with drawers in them to hold your utensils.

  My husband and I had dinner here for our anniversary over the weekend and it was extremely disappointing. We do a lot of tastings as cooking and trying new restaurants is kind of our thing. Though we read good reviews for Asta our experience did not meet our expectations. The service was nice and I enjoyed their beer list, but the food was not what we expected for the price.
  
  We did the 8 course tasting. I expect smaller portions when doing a tasting, but this was ridiculous. One course it was a slice of poblano pepper with a couple tablespoons of broth, another was poached onion slices with a bit of feta. Size was not the only issue, the food also lacked proper seasoning. We were really looking forward to this dinner, but in the end had to have a snack when we got home.
  
  I want to believe it was an off day, just wouldn't recommend for dinner.
