With the onslaught of new restaurants in the bay area I try not to forget the old school Tampa restaurants. Many of them still serve good traditional food. While it is a high dollar place, Armani’s has consistently served excellent gourmet meals. One constant there is the antipasto bar. I don’t know of any other restaurants that still have one. Most of them have transitioned to charcuterie platters, to me a new iteration of this classic form of appetizer.
On my recent visit we ordered the chefs selection from the antipasto bar ($20.00). It consisted of a few aged cheeses, mussels, clams, olives, salami, shrimp with cocktail sauce, and some beef strips as well. It was a broad selection and a tasty combination. If you go, you are always free to choose your own which is what I may do next time.
The chef recently added Seared Duck ($45) with walnut pappardelle, cherry port jus, and toasted walnuts. The crispy duck breast was sliced and plated dominoes style making for a nice presentation. The cherry port jus was smeared on the plate like a brushstroke. It’s a trendy decoration in many restaurants but didn’t work here. First of all the smear went off the edge of the plate making for a very unattractive presentation. Plus, it completely dried out on the plate before I was able to taste it so it added nothing to the dish. Pappardelle, a pasta that looks like wide fettuccine, was cooked to a perfect al dente firmness and tossed with walnut oil. The accompanying toasted walnuts were awesome.
My table mate ordered The Mediterranean Sea Bass ($48) served on a bed of saffron lobster risotto, citrus Chardonnay cream, and topped with mixed asparagus salad. The fish was nicely done with a crispy skin but slightly too much coarse salt added. The lobster risotto and Chardonnay cream sauce carried the dish to the top. Firm chunks of lobster mixed in with the risotto topped with that creamy sauce was a palate pleaser!
To finish we ordered Polenta Cake ($7) served with a sweet cream gelato on top of pistachio brittle. The cake had the consistency of a firm cornbread and the gelato with pistachio brittle brought a world of flavors together.
I'd go back. Armani's is uber expensive and something I would only do for special occasions. It doesn't have a sexy new chic warehouse interior with craft beer on draft and trendy people don't trend here. But over the years it's has consistently offered top end food.
If you go, go early. Get there in time to sit in the lounge and watch the sunset. It's a spectacular view from 14 floors up!
I think most of us like to try new things and there are some awesome places popping up. The latest eateries and chefs have brought new dimensions of flavor, textures, and cooking techniques not seen before in the bay area. But I still like to honor my culinary roots. Armani's is like a comfortable pair of jeans, not the latest, not the newest, but nice (and delicious) to have!response / report this review -

Very cool location Restaurant and bar area are very nice and elegant. Outside deck area is great for after dinner espresso or cappuccino as you watch the plane come in or, on the opposite side, just watch the sun go down over the water Beautiful! The duck risotto is my all time favorite! And, Khalid the host, is also my all time favorite!

Excellent service and food. Everything came out of the kitchen looking great and perfectly on time. My wife and I had never been, but will definitely go again.

Our initial greeting was horrible waited to be directed to the first lousy table .which we ask to be moved.the service was not fine dinning. Very routine just going through the motions and hopefully the very attractive food runners would deliver your selection on time. the fixed meal selection was horrible .from the start .the portions very small and not to temperature, main courses worse. Swordfish scallopini who in the world heard of this ,served ice cold. Reheated not replated My veal no flavor ,red inside. Warm to taste and no .flavor.sauce very bland. .sorry to say just because there is a sunset which happens every nite .The diner is not worth the view,.We feel we have over paid and the house did not deliver the goods.

I took my wife here to try since they had a Groupon for a five-course meal. It's rare that we have the money to go to a place like this, so this was a special birthday gift for her.
Let me cut to the chase with three bad and three good things.
Bad:
1) When the antipasto dishes came, I looked over at my wife's dish and was astonished to see a cockroach crawling over the cheese. No joke, and yes, it was a cockroach. The waiter simply said he was "not invited" and replaced the dish. No visit by the manager, antipasto chef, or anyone, no comps or offers to make things right - I'm not one to cause a scene, but I expected much more.
2) The assistant server reached in front of us and between us several times. Even the most basic service training would solve this.
3) There were a few times when I wanted to wave the server or assistant server for something, but they were nowhere to be found. They might be busy, expected to multitask elsewhere, but I expected dedicated service in our section.
Good:
1) The view was great, and I particularly enjoyed sipping the wine pairings while watching the Tampa skyline fall to darkness and glow with lights. The balcony view is a must from the top of the Grand Hyatt.
2) With the exception of the antipasto ordeal and the single totelloni "dish", the other dishes were fantastic. Nuanced flavors and careful temperatures were evident throughout. (I still wouldn't pay the alleged $250 value for the meals, however)
3) The dim lighting and piano music was a nice touch. Yeah, I know, I'm scraping for compliments. The experience left a fairly negative impression upon me overall.response / report this review -

Outstanding, service, panoramic views, and a varied menu of delectable italian specialty dishes. The antipasto bar is incredible, and a must do! Piano in the bar a nice touch but makes conversation a bit difficult.

Oh my goodness, we're half way through a 5 course chef's meal, and it is ABSOLUTELY delicious! Meat and cheese, amazing. Mushroom risotto, Fantastic! Lamb tortellini, mmmmmm. Seriously running out of ways to say how fantastic the food is. And the service, excellent! This place gets all the stars. Btw the wine pairings are ON POINT! Here comes the swordfish! Bye!!!

I've been LOVING this place for years! It is truly OUTSTANDING in every respect: food, service, atmosphere, overall experience. I've read a couple negative reviews below these people (like most people on the internet) are idiots. I'm sure they have something terrible to say about everything. Armani's is a great place, period.

we went there for our anniversary. it was a good choice for this special occasion. the service was outstanding. the view was marvelous. although the food quality was excellent, there was nothing impressive on the menu. food taste was good, but it did not meet my expectations. with the exception of the Osso Buco; it was very good. I recommend this restaurant for special occasions. the ambience, service and the view are worthed.

Great dining experience. The veal is delicious, and the bison rib eye will change your life. The anti pasta "bar" is one of the coolest features for a restaurant to have. If you want a classy AF dinner with a spectacular view of the Tampa Bay Area, look no further.

Stay away unless you are White, Anglo-Saxon. The manager keeps the tables with a view of the water for his buddies and says it is because they want a particular server. Never heard that one before. Reservations are useless as they tell you once you get there that they do not guarantee anything. Not classy at all.

This place was gorgeous and a phenomenal first for me. Ricardo and Khalid were absolutely amazing and the service was outstanding. I really loves the experience it gave me and will be returning soon. The dessert was a great surprise!

I had the special of chicken and mushroom ravioli which was divine. Mushrooms taste amazing. My date had the crab meat which was delicious, no fillers. Would definitely recommend the short ribs. Braised for hours, very tender with a lovely sauce and peeks of mashed potatoes which were very creamy
