Our medical system is broken. Hundreds of thousands of people are killed and millions more injured every year by an epidemic of preventable medical errors, medical bills are the number one cause of bankruptcy, and yet most people are unaware of these threats to their well-being, local media companies are unwilling to warn the public and most hospitals and other medical facilities are unwilling to make meaningful change.

​APRA is a nonprofit organization which was established to:
- provide a voice for all consumers who use healthcare services
- be a change agent for our health care system
- provide information and tools which can help people protect themselves and their families from physical and financial harm due to their health care
- promote and facilitate communications between communities and the hospitals that serve them
- fight for reduced patient harm. ​
