We got saddled with this insurance company after being labeled as "high risk" by our major provider due to having two hail storm claims within one month. Because apparently it's my fault that my roof and siding were destroyed twice, but whatever. So we are paying a ridiculously high premium with American Modern for less coverage than we had before. We had a major plumbing leak under the slab which we filed a claim for on Saturday Nov.17. It destroyed our kitchen cabinets and flooring through the kitchen, entry and dining room. The adjuster came out on Tuesday Nov.21. He had no idea what our coverage was and told us that having the leak located, the slab torn up and replaced and the plumbing itself was "probably" not covered. He stepped in the wet concrete where the slab and just been repaired that day. We had to tell him to take copies of the bills we had already paid. He told us he would review our coverage when he returned to the office on Monday. We assumed he meant the Monday following the Thanksgiving holiday, Nov.27. He meant Dec.4, which we found out when our contractor tried to contact him about the estimate for rebuilding. We then had to contact the adjusters supervisor who had no idea about our claim, no clue it was a slab leak, no clue it had been repaired already, no clue that our contractor had left her messages. After some choice words from both myself and my agent (who is actually through American Family, great guy, great insurance company) about the total lack of professionalism in handling this claim, it still took her two days to finish processing it and send us a check for the damages and the plumbing repairs which were covered. She tried to make excuses but really shot herself in the foot in the end and had to admit that she and the adjuster had mishandled the entire claim. It is totally unacceptable to send an adjuster who hasn't even read the policy and knows the coverage. It is totally unacceptable for that adjuster to go on a week and a half vacation without leaving being information so that our claim can be processed. I have been living on a concrete floor with NO KITCHEN for TWO AND A HALF WEEKS with two small children. I am disgusted with this company and cannot wait to be able to return to my regular policy once all these claims are cleared.

Horrible Ins company, make sure you get a policy before paying for it. Lots of things agents don't tell you.

I've worked here for more than 10 years, it is a great place to work if you are not in customer service.

How would you like to be sitting in your living room and notice what appears to be nothing more than a dusty corner only to find out that it's actually mold coming through the wall? This "COMPANY" was called 2 days later and I was sent an adjuster who had a hard time finding a "hidden leak". By that time, the mold is growing so fast and it's turning black, my family is sneezing, coughing and generally feeling bad and this "Company " calls us back like 9 days later and says they won't cover it. After being diagreed with that it wasn't called when I first noticed it, I was told it only covered sudden bursts of pipes..not a slow, long term leak which as like
I said before , not even the adjuster could find for awhile.
FOLKSthis is appears to be another crappie insurance company that will take your money every single month and then find their loop holes to avoid paying a claim. I find this so sickening and I would give it a negative star if I could. I hope the people who post how nice of a company this place is to work for are sleeping well at night and not breathing in mold spores like we are. But hey, it's a paycheck right.

AM belongs to Munich RE, a German-based reinsurance company, and is therefore driven to be efficient, effective, and compliant with regulation. I see several comments about poor customer service, slow responses, and not reading contracts - but the company is guided by three principles; Humility, integrity, and being the best at what they do. The facilities here are outstanding - for example, the training facility at American Modern trains adjusters and inspectors from many major players in the industry, and could be considered the industry standard with its scope and accuracy. What I'm reading doesn't match what I know, so consider your own research before you trust an internet review. I like the company, it isn't perfect - but it has a good culture driven by the employees that make it American.

Worst company ever! Took forever to respond. Took forever to assess my property that led to more damage. Then they decided to deny it all together. Wish I had not trusted AAA's referral to go with this company. Should have done my own home work. I had dealt with many different companies in the past, and this by far is the worst. If I could give a less than a one star, I would. I wish I could find out those who gave a higher ratings who did they talk to. Every single time I called, the experience was terrible. Why bothered to even buy insurance if a company like this one still exists..
