Description

"What's Past Is Prologue"

Summer 2014 marked the beginning of Shakespeare Academy @ Stratford, a unique theater training program for college students in Stratford, CT. Fifteen young artists from around the country gathered here to create, collaborate, study, and perform together—reviving theater training on the grounds of Stratford's American Shakespeare Festival Theater for the first time in decades.

Our past three seasons were a profound success, and we return in the summer 2017 with a fourth ensemble of students from around the world, and the 2017 Alumni Company. Four alums of last year's ensemble will create their own 4-person production of THE TWO GENTLEMEN OF VERONA in residence in Stratford, then tour it around the Northeast US. We're raising funds to support their efforts.

The Alumni Company: Our Vision

The Alumni Company is a bridge: an opportunity for former students from our previous summers to return to Stratford together to develop their skills as professional theater artists. We are wholly dedicated to the spirit of working as an ensemble, to caring for the artistic families we create each summer, and to growing the larger SA@S family year after year as the program grows.

The four members of our Alumni Company are all from the 2016 Company. They are: Kaitlyn Fowler of Baltimore, MD, Steven Miles of Kansas City, Missouri, Chandler Vance of Louisville, KY, and Bridget Wagar of Norwalk, CT.

Ultimately, we hope to develop confidence and resourcefulness in our alums through their work as the Alumni Company, as they prepare for their professional lives as theater-makers. This summer, they will learn to produce and perform theater on their own, to understand that they can always keep moving forward, creating, that the key to success in theater is perseverance. Keep working. Don’t give up. Create.
