About

A Lotta Love transforms homeless shelter rooms to be welcoming, safe, and comforting spaces for people that need them. With a fresh coat of paint, new curtains, furniture, and bright artwork, residents using these rooms feel recognized and worthy. When new residents move in, we purchase new linens, pillows, toiletries and other essentials specifically for them. When they move on to transitional housing, these items go with them to provide a sense of ownership and support. Our work in "trauma-informed design" recognizes that the physical environment directly impacts emotional and mental health. A good night's rest in a space that feels secure and calming is a fundamental starting point for moving beyond homelessness. Since our founding in 2014, we have grown to serve 17 shelters throughout Central North Carolina. Funded by grants, private donations and corporate giving, we use our design expertise to purchase new goods & furnishings as well as our connections in the trade for donations of skilled labor and renovation materials. Our 100+ volunteer base includes private individuals & families as well as corporate teams from real estate, design, home furnishings, technology, etc. A Lotta Love is particularly dedicated to working with youth groups and student volunteers, often exposing them to the conditions and needs at homeless shelters for the first time. We are inspired by their energy and passion for creating change. We have continued to serve our mission despite the covid pandemic. When we cannot be in the shelters, we provide "Room Kits" including new linens, toiletries, & children's items. In vacated shelters, we've completed a number of larger projects such as kitchens and entire floors of bedrooms. A Lotta Love succeeds in advancing opportunities for families by providing dignified, uplifting environments necessary for psychological well-being. We promote feelings of protection and peacefulness as well as hope and inspiration for the future
