A Better Way did an outstanding job of providing qualified caregivers for my father. They are a pleasure to work with.

I have been using A Better Way Service on and off since I sustained a back, knee and hand injury in March of 2013. The services has been outstanding. The staff in the office is truly compassionate. They do their very best to match you with the right caregiver. The caregivers are caring, knowledgeable and professional. I continue to use A Better Way services on an as needed basis at this time. I recommend them to anyone that is in need of care giving services.

WARNING: THREAT TO LIFE, HEALTH, SAFETY, POSSIBLE THIEVERY

    No zero star option.

I hired “Better” Home Health to get a caregivers assistance to take me to a dental appointment and to shower.

Odette arrived promptly. She called me as she couldn’t work the door code so I let her in. We had pleasant conversation to my unit. When she entered she commented that I’m still unpacking.

I said; “well, it’s been hard with the disability (why I hired her ).”

    She replied:

“What’s wrong with you?!?! You don’t look disabled.”

I know she meant no harm in this. But, as I’m subject to such ignorance and intolerance on the daily, and most humans should know better, Nevermind professionals, i was shocked.

I specifically hired this woman to make a tragically challenging day go smoothly.

I chose to excuse myself to the bathroom. I told her to please help herself to anything in the fridge. There was no animosity. There was no friction. No bad vibes. I really liked her so I knew I just needed a moment.

Apparently, I was in the bathroom TOO long. That was because I was calling Lori at their office whom I spoke with at least 8 times the day before to book this job. I asked if Odette had been briefed on my disability. I was told no and that I didn’t tell her I had one. That’s impossible. I lead with it. I must as it impairs communication (similar to how Tourettes might). In addition, both Lori and Odette knew the job included helping me shower, Lori was told SPECIFICALLY why I needed this assistance, also disability related. Now she said I didn’t say a thing. False.

That’s when Lori said she’s LEAVING!!! I had an URGENT - LIFE OR DEATH - dental appointment and spent 2 days hiring the only nurse / caregiver in LA I could find. Odette with “Betrer” Care.

Then Lori instructed me she’s an independent contractor and can do whatever she wants.

I ran out the door and called after Odette; “😄 Odette, Odette, where are you going.”

    “Home. You didn’t hire me.”

(I swear LA is a different planet.)

“Odette, I have to go to the dentist, it’s urgent, I hired you to take me.”

    “Nobody hired me.”

ODETTE DENIED SERVICE TO A DISABLED PATIENT/CLIENT AND DENIED I HIRED HER.

This entire experience ended in a call to paramedics given the excessive distress.

A few hours later when I reached for my bag of medicinal plant medicine, it was GONE!!! Then, I started looking around the apartment for anything else that could be missing. It is neat and tidy, I’m slowly unpacking and organized. My beloved Nana’s engagement ring… GONE!!!

(And who cares about any other Jewelry frankly.)

I called “Better” Home back to get Odette’s last name. I asked Tonia very politely. I explained, I’ll need to file a police report (if for no other reason, renters insurance, as this woman was the only human in this home but me). At no time did I accuse, I stated my valuables were gone.

Tonia started SCREACHING that I was harassing them (absolutely wrong) and that she was calling the FBI on me!!! Repeatedly she screamed her brother or cousin or whoever is in the FBI and she’s calling them. She means it. (Great, maybe they’ll find Nana’s ring.)

I thought I’d need the paramedics again.

“Better Homes” was briefed for HOURS on my FEAR BASED disability (phone records will support this) and they’re threatening to call the FBI after denying me service and after I had valuables go missing after their Independent contractor was in my home alone as I was in the bathroom.

THESE PROPLE ARE SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE CARE, NOT DECIMATE YOU TO A STATE WHERE YOU REQUIRE AN AMBULANCE!!! THEY WERE INFORMED FULLY ON MY DISABILITY AND PROMPTLY AGITATED IT.

I HAVE BEEN TREATED BY PARAMEDICS AND HAVE BEEN IN BED ALL DAY AS A RESULT OF LESS THAN 20 MINUTES OF SERVICE WITH A “BETTER” HOME “CAREGIVER!”

    * Phone records confirm I received an incoming call from Odette at her arrival time and how quickly I was in the bathroom on the phone with the office. 3 calls as the office was attempting to reach Odette to mediate and it was an “EXCHANGE.” The 3rd call to to report she’d left.

We used ABW for my Grandma and it was such a great experience. Steffi (owner) was so great matching the personality that worked with my stubborn Grandma. It was great to see my Grandma with a new friend and someone who truly enjoyed taking care of her. ABW will always be a part of of family now. Thank you for the help.
