Description

Fundi Bots uses robotics training inside and outside African schools to create and inspire a new generation of students and innovators who are better prepared for careers in the technology sector and who can become change-makers in their communities.

We use the process of building robots to introduce students to practical, modern technology concepts and, in the long term, we improve the overall quality of STEM education in African schools. We do this through school-based robotics clubs, holiday training camps and regional centers. Fundi Bots is targeting 100,000 African students within the next 5 years.

We are honored to host 33 Primary Six and Seven girls from St. Lawrence Kigoowa Primary School accessing computer lessons and programming classes at Fundi Bots. They are being engaged under the Fundi Girls program which is designed to create more opportunities for girls to get exposed to STEM and provide improved science learning in general.

The school administration and teachers are very cooperative, and happy with the changes in attitude and knowledge in the few sessions th...eir students have had with Fundi Bots. We're looking forward to providing enhanced science learning to all students in the school.

    Onwards, upwards.

Last year, Fundi Bots took the first step towards building our first partnership in Tanzania with Orkeeswa School.

Orkeeswa is a community-based secondary school located in Orkeeswa Village, an under-served Maasai community in rural Tanzania that promotes hands-on, experiential learning that emphasizes creative and critical thinking.

Last week, Fundi Bots was honored to be part of the Orkeeswa 10 year anniversary celebrations and we were well represented by Arnold L Ochola wh...o has been leading the technical training for Orkeeswa in Tanzania and during our teacher training early this year.

The student's demonstrations in robotics were well received by the guests and Orkeeswa community members.

We're excited about our continued partnership with Orkeeswa and proud of the continued and meaningful work that the Indigenous Education Foundation of Tanzania (IEFT) is doing in the Masaai community.

    Happy 10th Anniversary, Orkeeswa! #orkeeswa10

The Fundi Bots 2018 Internship Program starts today. We have over 60 students in this cohort from seven universities and two tertiary institutions in Uganda.

Over the next two months, these 60+ students will learn technical skills, take online courses, do practical science learning and learn soft skills like project management, teamwork, communication and other career related skills.

As part of our Career & Skills Program, our internship model is a hybrid of very intense hand...s-on, practical science learning every single day, work experience and project work. We've had very good success rates over the past few years with many students testifying that they learn more from us in their internship than they do at universities.

Fundi Bots on Rwanda TV!! Our founder, Solomon King had a 7-minute interview unpacking the Transform Africa Summit and what digital transformation looks like for the African continent. And of course, we also talked about our work with kids in Uganda (and soon, Rwanda).

Shout out Rosebella, Henry and Edgar and all the incredibly hard-working Fundis for making this happen!

We're excited to announce that some of our Fundi Bots robots are on exhibition at the Museum für Völkerkunde in Hamburg, Germany.

These robots are examples of our philosophy of using locally available and re-cycled materials and were designed by our students and resident Fundis like Masiriwa Henry and Arnold L Ochola.

The exhibition, "Flow of Forms / Forms of Flow. Design Histories between Africa and Europe" takes a look at global design practices and forms which have develop...ed through cooperative projects, adaptation and transformation of ideas and concepts. Taking a critical view of the Eurocentric perspective changes how we see things – instead of a history of design written from a one-sided (Western) viewpoint, Flow of Forms / Forms of Flow reveals multifarious, unexpected and surprising Design Histories.

The exhibition will run from 5th April to 19th Aug 2018 at the Museum für Völkerkunde in Hamburg, Germany.

The Fundi Bots team has just concluded a meeting and presentation to Ministry of Education officials. We presented to nine officials including the Commissioner for Secondary School Education and Commissioners for Private Schools, Gender, Public Schools and Special Needs Education.

We discussed updates to the science education policy and how Fundi Bots can engage with the government to enhance and supplement learning in Ugandan Schools, including curriculum development, teache...r training and outreach to marginalized schools deep in the villages.

All in all, a very promising continuation of our advocacy and policy program that's working to influence higher quality science education in Ugandan classrooms.

Special thanks to Betty Kituyi who continues to foster our relationship with various government bodies and to Masiriwa Henry for a great demonstration on the correlation between learning robotics and developing real-world solutions.
