Description

Flametree Stables is owned and run with huge enthusiasm by Miranda Bowser. An accomplished horsewoman, Miranda moved to Uganda from England over 20 years ago and has been keeping horses and teaching people to ride ever since.
Nestling in stunning countryside near Gayaza, Flametree Stables is within easy reach from Kampala approximately 30 minutes from the Lugogo bypass. The stables sit in 20 acres of woodland home to a variety of flora and fauna including the Flame tree which gives the business its name.
Miranda and her fantastically friendly team of staff offer a wealth of experience catering for both children and adults of all abilities, whether you’re a first time rider or have experience in the saddle.
There are several full-time instructors including Miranda herself and the yard is home to around thirty horses and ponies of differing sizes and abilities to suit your individual needs. The horses are well schooled and the yard operates to high standards in its care for both horses and clients.
The facilities at Flametree stables are first-class. There’s a large arena with a sand surface which means lessons can take place in all weathers, two further grass teaching areas as well as a x-country course which winds its way through the woodland.
There’s a myriad of activities to enjoy from individual or group lessons to instruction in the various equestrian disciplines such as dressage and show-jumping. However, if you’d rather take it easy with a leisurely hack around the local countryside, that can be arranged too.
The stables run popular competitions and gymkhanas for children and host regular pony camps at weekends and during school holidays. In addition there are opportunities to compete at events in Kenya with Flametree’s clients making regular trips to places such as Nairobi and Nanyuki.
Safety is a priority. All tack and crash hats are imported from abroad and meet the approved standards for safety in the UK. Our staff are trained in first aid and we are affiliated with the’ The Surgery’ in Kampala. But all riding is at your own risk.
Flametree prides itself on our professional approach to riding in a unique and beautiful environment. Our best advert is the atmosphere created by our friendly staff and our fun and well planned lessons and activities. Quite simply Flametree riders come back time and time again

WINNIE THE POOH aka Mr. Love, thoroughly enjoyed having a complete fuss made of him on Monday when a school came out to meet him and some of our other ponies. There were some very cute moments.

‘The Uganda Equestrian Association’ last weekend had 3 riders and 6 horses compete from Flametree Stables, at the amazing ‘Soysambu Event’ in Kenya.

The event was held on the side of Lake Elementita. To ride in a conservancy with such a stunning back drop leaves me speechless. The atmosphere was wonderful, the standard of riding was so so high, but most importantly the way each and every competitor supported each other showed sportsmanship at its finest!

Thank you to everyon...e who organised the event (such hard work).

Well done to Sirius, Bombay, Jamiesons, Balmain, Bwana and Bo! Such amazing horses.

Thank you to Di Smfor some of these pictures.

    Dear all,

We are heading to that time of year again when sadly some families will be leaving Uganda for new adventures, we wish you well and hope that you can keep enjoying horses and ponies in the new countries you move to.

For those who are staying please can you kindly let us know your holiday dates and when you wish your riding to resume, day, time etc. Obviously, we have new families arriving and they are looking for teaching slots for the forthcoming school year. Of cou...rse we will give priority to our existing customers.

For those not travelling for the whole summer kindly let us know when you will be around as we will be holding some Pony Camp days at the stables, starting with next Wednesday the 20th June, where we will do a ‘stable day’, this will include stable management, grooming, hacking, a lesson, bareback riding, games etc. Let me know if you are still around and would like to join in?

MC Beautiful, aka Akello Pacific came to Flametree yesterday to have her Birthday Party. They rode, they ate and enjoyed their picnic in the lovely woodland setting that is home to Flametree. Not quite sure how it didn’t end up as a swimming pool party with the amount of rain we have been having! Thank you so much for coming

Another first for Flametree is our beautiful carriage, pulled by one of our lovely horses, Africa Magic, and driven here by the very well turned out Stephen. What a way to propose, be transported to your wedding, or just be driven through the countryside. It’s a new and very exciting way to travel.

Flametree is closed on Mondays and all the horses have a long day off in their different fields. Over the last year we have been working hard on grass re planting projects, field rotation, weeding etc. These pictures show just how well the Team have been doing and look how green we are now the rains have arrived. Happy Mondays! Happy Horses!
