Travel back in time with us to the year 1827 on the island of Barbados where a baby girl names Mary Sarah Belgrove was born to an African slave. As Mary got older she embraced her role as the undertaker on the plantation burying the slaves who passed away. When slaves were emancipated Mary migrated to Trinidad and Tobago with her four sons in 1867 and settled in San Fernando. In 1888 Mary operated a funeral parlour on the corner of St. James and Victoria Street and that is where Belgroves got its humble beginnings. Fast-forwarding to the present Belgroves Funeral Home now has multiple locations nationwide and caters to everything that bereaved families need. Belgroves is a full- service funeral home with two Crematoria and the most advanced lawn crypt cemetery in the Caribbean; known as the Orange Grove Memorial Gardens.
