Excellent museum, rich in material and historical events! Well displayed and presented!
A remarkable archeological museum, extremely well designed that offers a stunning walk through the history of this region. For only 8 Turkish lira (about 2 Euros) your ticket provides entrance to both the Şanlıurfa Archeological Museum as well as the nearby Mosaic Museum. A must see in Şanlıurfa.
I can express how fantastic this museum is, and have one of the greatest Paleolithic, Neolithic museum with actual pieces from Gobekli Tepe and Mesopotamia which where this city is. To see pieces of Gobekli Tepe was such a moving experience, and their recreated the stone circle is the awe inspiring almost religious experience of the first man made complex in history. At the time I was travelling Gobekli Tepe was closed but many actual piece were moved to this museum. It's a tragedy that many tour of Turkey never come to this place and that criminal really. This museum the greatest Paleolithic/Neolithic museum in the world and all civilization started from here. Even wheat started in this area and it's a shared history of every human on the planet. Plus many Mesopotamia artifacts and stele are there. If you come to Turkey come to Sanliurfa it's a must see
Such an amazing museum. Well managed. A must see
The Biggest museum of Turkey. I really proud of it! Displays are so professional and realistic that even a person with any idea about history can enjoy! ( for some of them this is vegas display) next to the museum there is also mosaic section in situ. Worth to see!
The biggest museum in Turkey,
It is a new building and amazing.
You can see remains of the oldest temple Göbeklitepe and also Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze, Iron Age remains and Hellenistic, Roma, Byzantine and Islamic civilizations remains are in the museum as well. You can see all the human history in a time tunnel here.
Ps: For amazing 360 degrees museum images, you can check Google Street.
The museum is really fantastic. I really enjoyed to see the antique pieces inside.
One of a kind, needs half day for touring once. Time tunnel from BC 10 000 to AD 1500. You will need a second tour after reading "Fertile
Crescent". Or read FC before and finish it one tour, almost a day.
Very big museum. The full-size Göbekli Tepe (Ancient archaeological site) replica was thrilling.
En eski yerleşim yerilerinden biri olan göbekli tepe eserleri sergileniyor. Her döneme ait eserler var. Modern güzel düzenlenmiş bir müze. Yolu düşenlerin mutlaka uğramasını öneririm.
Great museum with all kinds of fascinating artifacts highlighting the history and archaeology of the region.
The location of the Şanlıurfa Müzesi (Şanlıurfa Museum) on Google maps is wrong. It points to the old museum. Şanlıurfa has now a new museum just behind the Piazza Mall. The correct location is: 37.153688, 38.781911
It is an AMAZING museum right in the middle of the cradle of civilization. From pre-pottery Neolithic period, passing thru: the Bronze Age; Iron Age; Mesopotamia kingdoms; Alexander the Great (332BC); Assyrian empire; Roman control; Byzantine control; to the Ottoman Empire.
The new building is huge, and the room where the T-shaped monolithic stone pillars from Göbekli Tepe (The First Temple) and the quality of the artefacts in exhibition makes this a small town museum a true world class museum.
