I visited the emergency for a sick family member

👍🏻Positives:
- Good medical assessment and managment
- Clean with good WC service
- There are good coffee shops and cafeteria inside the hospital

👎🏻Negatives:
- No body speaks English (just very few words)
- No explanation of the medical condition was provided by the doctor. He just mentioned: you have Flu, take this prescription. He frowned when I asked whether is it Flu A or Flu B !!
- Emergency clinic discharge form is written in English yet it is provided only to protect the doctor medico legally but doesn’t contain any medical information or results of the patient
- Prescription is written only on Turkish language
- There is no pharmacy available inside the hospital from the afternoon even in the emergency. However, there are outside pharmacies opposite to the emergency door
- Service is overpriced: assessment + swabs + IV fluid +/- antipyretic (not sure if given) +/- blood tests (not sure if taken, and no results provided to us) by 5200 TL which equals 280 USD and equals 1050 SR

Wish I have read these reviews before having had my operation here… After 4 months from the operation not much of my symptoms change - so the operation wasnt very successfull - no follow ups or any after help… But they were very happy to have my 40.0000 TL… Yes almost 2.500 USD for a standard operation… Money money money…

On a recent trip to Istanbul, I fell and fractured my hip. The staff of the hotel where I was staying took me and my wife to the American Hospital, where I received exceptional care. The skill and personal attention by the doctors and the entire staff of the hospital was remarkable in every way. My surgery for a full hip replacement was very successful as well as the excellent rehab given to me. My wife and I were tremendously impressed by the high quality of the services and facilities at this hospital and even more by the professionalism and genuine concern of the people who work there. This hospital supposed to be one of the best in not only Istanbul but in Turkey. And yet they share inadequate information about my condition and find it enough to prescribe a medication after some tests which I quit later. (My experience was with ENT department) After 5 months of dealing with this condition, learning more about it, I can safely say that if I were to be informed better about my condition, I could heal faster and suffer less.

10 minutes of discussion for 115 USD: Dr. Bülent Kahyaoğlu is more expensive than my lawyer (may consider a reconversion?). Joking aside: lack of empathy and consideration for the patient. One star for the nice facility and the polite non medical staff.

I had a visit 4 my son as it was recommended highly. We went for a suspected kidney stone or infection of bladder. He had all the test required by the doctor. Very expensive. The results was the outer of his bladder was much thicker than what it should be. Nope it was he has a duplex kidney😥😥😥. I would not go again or recommend at all. There are so many hospitals which doesnot cost as much and have English speaking staff. Yep staff are not friendly at all or easy to approach. As long as it is not urgent I will definiately do wider search before my visit.

The GP was very good, I would go to see him again - he was recommended though.
Another time I was given antibiotics by a nose ear throat specialist although I asked for all the alternative treatments before, and the explanation was "surgery or antibiotics" which was not true. Seemed like he just wanted me to get out. He was abrupt to say the least.
Also, before coming I called the hospital and asked if my insurance covered them and they said yes. After that I found out it does not cover it. If you are paying this much you might as well go somewhere else, makes no difference.

Practically, it is your only option if you don't speak Turkish. Since we moved to Istanbul, we had several visits with different doctors. In general physicians are good, but almost every other employee from receptionists to lab technicians have a certain snob attitude. As most encounters in Istanbul, when someone "believes" they speak English they act arrogant as if this scarce skill make them indispensable or superior. On another note, I don't get how in this age, you still need to take a physical paper with your lab tests to your doctor who is a couple of floors away in the same building! As a patient, you can access your test results online, while doctors cannot access them from their hospital network!

Good doctors, crappy receptionists. Doctors speak English although they will certainly make sure to ask for every time of exam under the sun to make sure they fill their coffers a little before finally coming a conclusion. It's not uncommon for them to ask for an MRI for a head cold

I became incredibly sick while traveling in rural Turkey - could barely walk, could hardly breathe, fever through the roof. Ended up wandering around late at night by myself, and someone sent me here. Excellent rapid care, with doctors who very quickly diagnosed what I've since learned was a pretty rare lung infection. And, yes, while it's probably expensive as compared to other hospitals in Istanbul, the cost of care for all of the scans I got was SO MUCH LOWER than it would have been in the US. Very grateful.

Dr. Murat Pençe (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) is the best! Excellent doctor, service, staff, place, environment, and atmosphere. Very high quality and high standards. Worth every Lira you pay!
