A great museum covering the history of Jews in this region with special attention given to the relationship between the Ottomans and the Jewish population. The museum portion takes its name from the 500th anniversary of Spanish Jews finding asylum in the Ottoman empire. The only thing missing was mention of any negative events between Jews and other local populations. The immense security is testament to some of what has happened here. This is also a unique opportunity to visit an active synagogue.

The synagogue is attached to a museum. The exhibits are very well-curated and certainly worth a visit.

I went to Neve Shalom in Galata Istanbul , they close & the security guys are rude not welcoming

I was trying to get ahold of the synagogue for Passover but I could never reach them over the phone (the number didn't seem to work) and everytime I visited the synagogue, there was no one answering the door. I know I needed a reservation to get in but how was I supposed to get a reservation if I could not get in touch with anyone?
