One of the most beautiful places I've ever visited on this planet. An Charming lake Van, Akhtamar island and on it Armenian Holy Cross Church. One of the rare monuments of the Armenian heritage in the territory of modern Turkey, which more or less retained its primordiality.

It was a nice day trip from Van. A relaxing boat ride and a sip of tea on the island or on the shore. Highly recommended

Interesting though sadly not very well-preserved church on a picturesque island. Take a minibus to Gevas / Akdamar and then a boat (for about 15 TL return).

Beautiful church built by the native people of Van ( the Armenians). The church is currently within Turkish borders (use to be within Armenian borders before the 1900's) due to the Armenian genocide which was perpetrated by the ottoman Turkish government in 1915.
