The major attraction in Ani. Also the biggest structure in the site. You will see the characteristics of the Armenian architecture in this church. By the way, it is way bigger than it looks!

The most impressive building on the whole complex. It's still pretty in tact although the roof collapsed a few decades ago.
Inside there are birds everywhere and it is feels super atmospheric when your on your own look I was. Ah obvious must see inside Ani.response / report this review -

The cathedral was started to build in 987 by Ani king Sembat and finished in 1010 by Katranide who is the wife of king I. Gagik. The architect of this monumental construction was Architect Trdat Mented who restored in Istanbul the Hagiasophia in 1604. When Seljukid Sultan Alp Arslan conquerd Ani, he performed his first Friday Pray here and the name of this monument was changed into 'Fethiye Mosque' by adding mihrap.
This monument stands next to the Silk Road, direct on the closed Armenian-Turkish border. I hope once will be the symbol of armenian-turkish friendship.response / report this review -

Çeşitli depremlerde hasar göre katedral 989 tarihlidir. Kısmi harabe durumundadır.
