Great historic site to visit. The place is populated by rocks but you csn easily navigate thanks to the pathways. The view of the mountains and the little Canyon id breathtaking.
It is one of the most charming ruins in Anatolia, its on Armenian border and ancient silk road. Churhes are impressive. Must see.
Little known to foreigners but incredible location for views as well as photography
As a person who travelled countless historical sites in Turkey, I can say that Ani was the most unique one! The place blew my mind! Even though transportation to Ani is the major problem, you can take a cab to this place. If you have limited time, do not rely on the public buses that go there since the bus drivers are not really keen on following the schedule. You may end up missing the bus even if you go to the station on time. By cab it is a 40 minute drive from Kars. Wandering around the ruins of this city which carries the characteristics of the beautiful Armenian architecture was an unforgettable experience. Add this place to your to do list and visit here as soon as you can!
I think this is the most beautiful historical place in Turkey. I highly recommend you to visit the ruins. By the way the place is next to the border with Armenia. (across the river)
Such a great place to visit and spend several hours wandering around in history. Just trying to imagine what this place was like is part of the journey. You must visit this place if you are planning to tour this part of Turkey.
This ancient Armenian city was called the city of the 1000 churches. Unfortunately, a lot of the monasteries have been destroyed over the ages. Still, there is a lot to see in the city. You can see Armenian letters all over the churches, but crosses have been taken away. The information signs say that the churches were actually mosques, destroyed by the Armenians, however, archeological research has shown that these are actually Armenian churches. To see actual not (partly) destroyed Armenian monasteries: A visit to Armenia or Northern Iran is a better idea
