The oldest settlement on Cappadocia Region. The area is quite tourist friendly. There are information boards, route arrows and even home replicas. Sadly this place is not popular at all. However, if one wants to understand the history of the region, this area is a must visit. You can see how people who lived 10.000 years ago constructed houses.

Asikli Höyük is an early Neolithic settlement (Aceramic Neolithic), established on the bank of Melendiz river 10.000 years ago. For at least 25 generations Asikli community lived at the same spot, in semi subterranean oval buildings, then through time changed to rectangular, mud-brick houses. Entrances to the buildings were through an opening on ther roof by the help of a wooden ladder. They buried their deads in pits dug under the floor of their houses. They has a communal way of living, used middens and activity areas collectively, as well as the special purpose buildings (at display under the protective roof shelter) that served for their rituals and ceremonies.response / report this review
